the cross-posted RR thread i started in the PNW section is mostly just me talking to myself...

I was finally able to pull a picture off of the auction website with my Mac.

Here's the truck sitting waiting for me to come pick it up.

I'm thinking to paint the truck a flat light grey or a flat desert sand with a white grill.
    Thoughts?

one of my neighbors at the shop has a variety of old 50s chevy pickup trucks, one of which is painted a semi gloss sand-ish color with a red grill, looks really cool. gloss white grill would look rad as well.

im a bit north of seattle

i dont know what that things got under the hood, but engine parts for some of those rigs can get spendy so hopefully it runs ok!
though i suppose if youre not towing or loading it up much its probably a non-issue... just coast around everywhere in high range

Hehe, I just realized that I suck at build threads!

Why are the trailer wheels so small? Did it used to be an ex mattress hauling trailer because those are the only semi trailers that I have seen with the smaller wheels.

Haha, Freightshakers are far from what I think of when I think rugged. Western Star might be better but I really don't know enough about them. When I think "rugged" I think Kenworth T800, W900, or C500, Peterbilt 379 or maybe a Mack. I'm trying to remember what else I saw in the oil fields in Alberta or hauling freight in Yellowknife. Freightliner has good engines and good features but they don't seem to hold up so well to hard use.
Lately I have been testing "tip-in events". Just the tip-in. Just to see how it feels. Response time is typically on the order of 2-3 seconds. Sometimes the injection timing is a little off...

There was a period where that was all you saw. I'd guess for a few reasons (more aerodynamic, more trailer capacity, less rubber = cost savings, less rolling resistance)? Those are all guesses.

Haha yeah we (I work for Freightliner) don't really have a heavy duty truck currently, the odd fld132 here and there, but Freightliner is really a long haul over the road kinda truck. Western Stars and Kenworths rule the roost off highway. The good ol' 379 is hardly heavy duty either. The 367 is probably what you were thinking of as those are a big heavy duty truck.

You still see some of these from time to time, usually delivering potato chips to supermarkets.

Like most posts on TCL, its totally nostalgia and "I like old things" based. These things are ugly in their own right, but because they are red and old and paved the way for the future, everyone likes them.
