I was thinking on my ride home if they put soundaktor there to hide all the different sounds.

It's funny though, when the first cold snap happens come late November, it's amazing how much of a difference you can feel. It's like buying a new car.

I'll take my chances. I'm just worried that once I get rid of the Soundaktor, I might want a louder exhaust than what I have on order...

On a different note, my RB rotors already arrived. Time to lose some more rotating, unsprung mass.

What pads are you using? Changing brake fluid as well? Can't wait to get your impression as this is something I am looking at along with obviously much lighter wheels.

Carbotech 1521 pads. I will change the fluid as well and might possibly go with SS lines while I'm at it.

Do you use it as a street pad or just for the track? How is the noise and dust?

I'll probably go with the XP10 if I start doing more than a couple of track days a year.

My R valve stem caps arrived this morning from Bold Sport. Inexpensive and relatively insignificant mod, but it adds a nice touch.

I use it daily and also when i go to track.
The dust almost it doesn't exist. As for the noise, they are noisy but i don't care. Performance speaking they are the best imo.

If you want to go to track, get the RP2 pads. On track they are amazing! Get the RP2 for track use.

Thanks for the input! I've run track pads on the street for a few weeks at a time, and it didn't really bother me. They did, however, embarrass and annoy my wife.

The only thing I didn't like about running track pads on the street was the lack of initial bite until they warmed up, which resulted in a couple of close calls.

Fortunately, those honors go to TEFF and iModR.

Yeah, looking back at my initial impressions in my first post about how good this car is out of the box (and it is), it seems a little ridiculous now. That said, I'm really, really happy with the way this build has turned out. The funny (and awesome) thing is that if you look at this car, you'd never be able to tell where all the money went. The average person would think my car is stock, which is exactly what I want.

This. Thank goodness for guys like TEFF and iModR to (1) inspire us; and (2) make us feel better about our own car-related expenditures.

Not doing a full exhaust...yet. Just the 42DD downpipe, which should give me the power gains without changing the sound at daily driving levels. After I take out the Soundaktor, I may want something with a bit more aural punch. I'll keep you posted...

best build-up thread. The format of the first post should be made mandatory for ALLLLLL future build-up postings!!! I hate sifting through page after page to see install pics, what has been done, finding the various pics, etc etc etc.

Update the first post like you did and all would soooo much nicer in the world...well, on vortex at least

Bad a%% R, I test drove one but couldn't pull the trigger on $36k. Will wait 2 or 3 years and try to find a lease turn-in or something like that.

Thanks. I'm glad at least one person noticed that I keep the first post updated with links to pictures and descriptions of all my mods (I get PM'd daily with questions that would easily be answered by looking at the first post and following the links).

Good on you for having more patience than I did. I'm sure at the end of this year or early next year, there will still be R's on the lot going for invoice or below. You might be able to make a deal then. Either way, the R is definitely worth the wait.

Agreed. And believe me, this is a distinction I could do without. Also, if any of you happen to meet my wife in person and mention this thread to her, just know that I will have to kill you.

I ordered the 1521s directly from Carbotech to make sure I got exactly what I needed. When I ordered them back in early February, there was an issue with correct placement of the wear sensor wire, which they have sorted out. Their customer service is excellent.

I honestly don't remember what I paid for them, as it's been so long now. I believe it was around $250, but don't hold me to it. Price depends on whether you get the wear sensors and whether you want them to pre-bed them in.

Thanks again for putting me in touch with Luis for the rotors. Awesome guy to work with.

Same thing here with me fiancee.

A friend with a K04 GTI and R brakes had the RP2 and even in cold the initial bite was amazing. I was like: "wtf??? How is this possible"
That experience convinced me to get Carbotech pads.
    Customer service it's top.
I will order a set of RP2 for Autumn when i will go on the Hungarian F1 track with the car.
Alcon + RP2 = mwhaha. Should be fun

On a different note, my RB rotors already arrived. Time to lose some more rotating, unsprung mass.
No, I haven't done the flapper mod yet. Currently have the car not driveable because I'm trying to figure out a good routing for the catch can plumbing. After that, intercooler. I haven't actually started seriously working on this project yet. It's a seriously simple mod, but the way I'm planning to do it is going to be a bit different.
