There weren't leftovers in 2004, and it doesn't look like there will be this time either..

      2012 Golf R (On Order)

Not sure what that's about, as I was in no hurry and would've been fine with any future order allocation. It's not an excluded model from the VW supplier program, so I just assumed they didn't want my business or thought they could make more profit instead of being reimbursed by VAG.

I never understood this attitude about limited models because they always end up with left over units on the lot. I mean, if all production for the model year was pre sold, then I'd understand.
I believe other members of this forum have successfully used the supplier discount certificate to get the car at $500 below dealer invoice, which is a substantial discount. The dealer I am working with has said they will honor the certificate, although we have yet to lock in a price. My car will not be here until mid May though and I ordered in December. If the dealer won't honor it then just go to another one.

I just remember cross-shopping a GTI with a 2010 Mazdaspeed3 at the same dealership and they kept trying to sell me a new R32 left on the lot. It was a 2008 R32 still there at the end of 2009. Anyway, guess I'll just keep asking around as suggested. I still need to test drive one to convince myself, though.

Love the car. This Golf is superior to my E350 Coupe in a lot of ways and occupies a special place in my heart. Can't wait to start adding power. I'm going to start a build thread as soon as I can figure out how to upload pictures.
Wrote this in another thread, but, Royal Motors in SF doesn't have any inventory to begin with. Demo models arrive "mid to late Feb" and they said they will not be taking orders until they get those, which would be "3 month lead time". By the time they get inventory (3 months after demos arrive) they said, "you may as well custom order". Taking my chances and waiting until dealers get their heads out of their A** to purchase around the Bay Area, I think.

Any thoughts for us Bay Area'ers? Anyone heard anything different from Royal?

We put a deposit down (fully refundable) for a 2008 R32 with nav and had a verbal agreement for MSRP. When it came, they had a sticker for $43k on it; after an hour of back a forth, they relented for MSRP. We still walked out because of the terrible experience. Screw them.

Anyhow, subscribed because I'm curious to see what's going on in the South Bay for the new R.

Never considered ordering a car with a verbal agreement on the price. I think a completed and signed sales contract is the way to go, with all the specs, conditions and pricing listed.

    7. 02-02-2012 05:07 PM #32
Like I said, it was fully refundable, so I literally have nothing to lose. Dealers are sleazy; I'll just take my business to one that isn't, and I'm in no rush to buy so it's all good.

I've only ever dealt with Winn and Sunnyvale in my car buying experience. Both of those dealerships have treated me right in both sales and service. I've never dealt with any of the others not because of negative experiences but just because I've always dealt with Winn and Sunnyvale so I've never had a reason to try Stevens Creek or Boardwalk.

Regarding the asking for more than MSRP, I figure dealers have as much of a right to ask for a price over MSRP as I have to ask for a price under it. It's a negotiation, each side has to start somewhere and some are going to aim high. Sure it puts me off a bit if they reach for the stars but, I've yet to run into someone absolutely unwilling to negotiate.

I had a good experience w/Boardwalk VW in Redwood city. CW 4-door @ MSRP and $500 deposit. All of the "conversations" occurred via e-mail which was I sincerely appreciate.

Checking out an unclaimed candy white 4dr R in Salinas. Nice car.

They are selling it for MSRP. I almost bought it but I really want blue. See Art Sabiniano. Great guy. Super up front and honest. I hope one of you guys snap up that R!!

It looked awesome in person and i think that CSG is a great color on the car. I wish i would have been patient now and waited for them to come out. I thought they would be priced much higher than they are for some reason. I think i would have justified the difference between a Autobahn 4 door gti and a 4 door golf r.
Hope you enjoy your car.. looks nice

Good to know, I'm certainly looking for a honest sales person with a straight up price here in the bay area.

Last time I purchased a VW was in 08 with James at Sunnyvale VW, not sure if he is even around any more.
I'm certainly not in a mark up game, so straight up pricing is works for me...

That's not at all what I have heard from them. I have a CSG 2dr loaded in production with ETA mid-May. I put the deposit down for it in late October. The salesman I am dealing with on the Audi side emailed me and told me they sold their first allocation in early February for 4K over sticker.

I consistently hear good things about Winn and Sunnyvale. Boardwalk used to have a good reputation, also, but I think a lot of the good salespeople have left. I ordered my TDI at Royal Motors when there were very few allocations and many dealers didn't take orders, and they treated me well - however, since then, Mico (who knew the system well and is a great guy) has left.

BTW, Mico is the guy who started the Track your R/Ask a salesperson thread.

Dunno, when I asked the owner way back when the car was announced who would be the best sales person to work with and would not mind me asking for updates on the order from time to time, Hardik is the one he had me work with.
