China is not just some second rate country. So the comment about China affording this higher trimmed version then us is out of place. And it surely has nothing to do with politics.
Look. I had a B6, and if I had to decide between that and my current B7, the new B7 would win. I had projector headlights, LED tails, a cooled glove box, rear seat vents. And in my opinion, that stuff was nice to have but not needed. My reflector headlights on the Tiguan and my B7 help me see the same down the road. Knock on wood but no one has ran into the back of me because they couldn't tell if I was breaking or flashing my turn signals. No passenger has ever complained about not getting any cold air and I have NEVER used a cooled glove box.
But you know what? There are other GREAT cars out there that offer those things. I looked at a Kia Optima SX, WONDERFUL car. Hell all the features that have been talked about here is in a Buick Lacrosse. And that is also a fantastic car. As a consumer, they are plenty of options to get the exact type of car we want. To envy China or say that we get a cheap car to replace a fantastic one is so out of place. Because we have cars on the market that fit everyone's needs.
Volkswagen is not the be all end all to cars. Find what you're looking for, it's out there right now for sale. If... you're in the market. If you're not... then why does what China get even matter?
I don't want to say that my opinion is right and someone else is wrong. So please don't misunderstand me. But come on people. We're getting rear air vents. Maybe we'll get LED tails and DRL's in a few years. Yes, so maybe the competition will already beat Volkswagen there... but so what? If VW made the wrong judgement call then let them suffer for it. You can still love the brand and be driving something else that fits your needs.
