The 8th installment of What the frick is that? is ready to go.

No hints are offered at this time on this one, as it may not be the hardest item to guess Guessing the actual brand could prove to be a decent challenge, but worth it as I am now a big fan of the quality of their work and it may be a good resource for you as well.

    {ROUND 8}
This one showed up on Friday.

I appreciate the love for the build but I am equally as jealous/stoked that you are getting through your engineering degree. Something I always wanted to get done as well.

Yep you are as right as rain and since no one guessed it this time around I'll spill the beans. Maybe one of you guys could use the resource. Its a dude named Nik who is out in Oklahoma and fabs these fiberglass boxes one at a time. This company is called Uber-Stealth Boxes and the finish is damn near factory plus you get the flexibility of running whatever sub you want. The mdf trim looks like it would add weight, but it was surprisingly light. Not bad!

NP. Fit is tight as a drum too, no sloppy shifting around. With handmade items, you can get rankling issues down the road when it all starts with a poor fit. NOT the case here so....

Yeah, Niks the man when it comes to stealthy subs. Also he owns a MK5 GTI, so its good to support a fellow VW head. The underfloor sub is pretty bad-ass too, but we'll need that space for some other car audio related items.

Pete, this is the beauty I got my eyes on. Dunno if this Audison AV 10" sub was released yet, but thats the plan. Are you doing a sub install? If so what speaker will you use?

OK, now the build is officially starting. No silly games on this item because it will be installed in the next 48 hours. Heading to Phoenix right now to meet up with the squad at BSH to get this damn thing started already

I had JL W6 in mind as it is more than enough power for me. Driving amp JX500/1D which just came out and is getting rave reviews. I just find out today that my car was delayed. Well I picked up more goods for the car even that it's not here.

I'm loving checkin' out "what's that freakin' thing?" posts. boy ohh boy this will be a phat build.

Completed? Seems like all 4 phases will take until June at least. Phase1 is just the basic BT set up w/o jumping into the fueling, methanol or internals. Which are steps 2, 3 and 4.

Yeah man, I was really psyched to learn about Uber-Stealth as well. Glad I could pass on a good tip, thats the whole point of sharing a thread. What sub would you use?

    NOTES FROM THE ROAD: ch.1

Thought for the few that check in on this build you'd appreciate seeing some forum check-ins as we (me and the car) head out to BSH in Phoenix, AZ from SF to do our phase 1 BT build

Driving south through California on Highway 146, this was the bananas view I was greeted with at 5:45am as the sun was breaking and illuminating a raging sea of clouds that the roadway climbed above. It rained like a bastard later that day as you may imagine.....

Here is the not so big, big turbo LOL! Keychain style.

Here is what I think we've all been waiting to see. The K04 is not quite this large. This keyfob gives a good reference point for the size of this bad boy.

You can bet that all my crap went inside with me at this very sketchy motel in SLO. As you can see it's all about traveling light.

Now on to Phoenix. Update soon.
    -J

    NOTES FROM THE ROAD: ch.2

Here is a second update from the road on the way out to Phoenix from Ventura, CA.

First stop this morning was to meet up with the folks at ARP Fasteners to see more of what they are developing for the FSI engine. I can't share too much, but if you are planning a power build keep your eye on their website.

Stacks and stacks of product. The sheer amount of product they churn out is like nothing I've ever seen in the aftermarket industry.

The very first thing once I went inside the building was exactly what us FSI folks want to see!

More of the good stuff being packaged up and sent out to power hungry engines across the globe.

Raw products getting ready for some walnut blasting and final finishes.

It wouldn't be a proper road-trip without staying at a skeezy crankwhore hotel. This one was in an unsavory section of Phoenix. At least I had a man and a woman (on separate occasions) offer me some "paid services" while on the way to the ice machine. I politely declined and then threw up in the sink when I got back to the room. My libido was very repulsed at the mere idea...

    * note the strange double peephole in the door and dual locking mechanisms. There was also a bit of blood on the floor. I know I got class huh, LOL!

I slept with one eye open and some nun-chucks on my nightstand at this filthy little place. I also threw the security guard a $10- with the promise of more in the morning if he kept an eye on the whippy. All ended well.

    NEXT UP: CRUISING AROUND PHOENIX....
