yes sir, 5 gal. everything is secured down into a metal plate, that is then secured to the floor of the trunk...i'll try to get some pictures this week of the actual spot where it got secured down to, and give you a better idea..

update: while working on the trunk lid today, snapped a quick pic for you...still have to get one of the wheel fitment...

sorry, it's kind of hard to tell..but there is a thick metal plate, like almost 1/4'" thick...the compressor and tank are screwed down to that plate which is then secured down to the trunk floor...you can see just a little corner of the plate where i lifted the carpet...

and i started working on the trunk lid today...will post the rest of the pictures tomorrow morning..

cool, same here..now i just have to find a reputable shop around here to do the painting...finding someone trustworthy and reputable in south florida is like trying to find a clean hooker on a las vegas strip, nearly impossible..and that's not just automotive related - that pertains to almost any type of labor/service offered...people are mad sketchy around here..

i get excited when i see updates to this thread, that trunk is gonna look good!

So with that metal plate, did you drill through the body and use some sort of nut/bolt to secure or did you use something else. I've been trying to figure out how I want to mount everything (not sure how I feel about people who leave it floating in the trunk )

yeah, nut and bolt pretty much...i'm not sure about securing it down to something floating either..a lot of people do it, specially the vw people...so i know it will work...but i guess i'd just rather not..

    thanks man..

i'm hoping to close down the shop in the next hour, head home and try to finish up that trunk and get it primed and ready for paint!

soooo...ecs seems to have the euro headlamps for the mk6, but i talked to them and they told me that they throw a bulb out error...anyone know any way to get around this? no, i haven't tried looking it up yet, but i will...it would save me some work though.

bump for being halfway done with the trunk...i honestly thought i'd be done today...and then i reminded myself of how much a pain bodywork can be...and this isn't even too big of a project...omg.

the worse part is the spring for my garage door broke, and now the door won't go up at all..so i have to work in the garage with no ventilation, and poor lighting, and a whole lot of fumes from the body filler, until they fix it...any ways, plans are to finish the molding tomorrow and have it primed....okay, maybe at least finish the molding..

thanks man...lol, i know how you feel...i kind of wanted a tdi also..mainly because of mileage, and just because i wanted a diesel :p...and the fact that it would probably keep me away from spending too much money on engine modifications...but i just liked the look of the gli more overall..

Update for today: completely slacked off yesterday. woke up 1 in the afternoon, had breakfast. didn't work on my trunk at all..the garage door spring broke, and my garage door won't open at all...and i hate working in that small, enclosed space..specially with all the dust...need to get that fixed asap. so instead, i just watched my brother do his carbon fiber interior trim in his car...kind of got motivated to do mine..

haha, same here!!!! i was sooooo close to going stage 3, but i just got my girl a new car, and now i'm broke again! hahaha..time to save up again...it sucks becuase the more i research and read up, and the more parts i see being released for our cars, the bigger the temptation is...it's hard trying to save up and getting ready for a serious relationship and everything else, no joke..but it's all good, i'm not complaining...in case she's reading up on the forums, i love my girlfriend

what is every one's opinion on window curtains? just out of curiosity? there are a lot of jdm "vip" cars that i've seen rolling around with curtains, but i haven't seen many vw, if any at all...i think it could work depending on the application...just curious as to what you guys think..

i got you man...just uploaded them right now...did the best i could..raised the bags all the way up, and i still couldn't get an okay picture, so i raised the car up with a jack...my camera is so freakin' huge, it's hard getting it into such a tight place...it would help if i had just a regular point and shoot..but you should be able to get an idea..

the picture above is the front strut and wheel..it's hard to see exactly here, because of this freakin' camera...couldn't get a shot facing the wheel/strut straight on...but..the gap between the wheel and strut is so small that it won't fit the tip of my pinkey through it, just so you have an idea..

the above picture is of the rear strut and wheel...there is a little more of a gap here..i placed my key fob between the wheel and strut so you guys can get an idea..the key will not fit through the gap, even if i forced it...it's about 3/16" narrower than the width of the key...did i confuse you? lol..
