Julie, I suppose you and Jill aren't going, right? Just kidding of course. We'll have to make plans in the next couple of months.

We are. Work has a new policy of requests for days off/vacation to by made 90 days out, which replaces a 6 month out policy. Good part is that it's all done online, so one can do it anytime. We are 90 days out from Sunday, so tomorrow we put in for Monday and all is good. Now we need some nice weather and time to do some things to one of the cars.

I'm gonna try and make it for the first time, I probably will come from alabama and after cincy go to Oregon/California

    Stuff to do:
    1. Full poly kit( motor mounts, steering rack, control arms, bumpstops, etetcet) prothane has a kit available from bbm for 99)
    2. Change shock inserts on the bilsteins, or replace with extra stock setup)
    3. Get rid of cut springs and install my stock springs from extra setup
    4. Ball joints, wheel bearings and tie rods
    5. Get tab on my x brace machined so I can install race subframe, mock up then tack weld it. Instead of muscling in a already welded brace ( I bought a partially made Eurosport 4 point frame from rob (gokraut) and finishing it myself
    6. Both axles

Car is drivable right now, but it's been jumped, wrecked and torn and welded, on fire, driven hard then rewelded in other areas and etc it's a miracle it's not in a junk yard

And I'm not taking any chances with suspension since none of it has touched my hands

    T minus 81 days now....

Dude, are you sure you want to go full poly for suspension and engine? The vibration is gonna suck!

Me, I have some parts on the way....
    - another right engine mount (first one, well, didn't last too long)
    - knock sensor
    - crankcase vent hose (thanks, Moogie, for making those!)
    - fuel transfer pump (mine was worrying me for a lot of last year - needs changed)
    - small tidbits

Need to pull the instrument cluster this week, and get started on the odometer repair.

Really want to get a new set of struts/shocks for her.

And, been eyeing a few Cabby 3-gauge sets on eBay...

Does mine run? Yes! But, she could be better...
    - Cup

    I am getting ready too.

Had a mild scare that my Niece's graduation was going to make for a "tough" conversation about why Uncle Stephen wasn't going to be there LOL Looks like I leave Cincy and head to the airport Monday morning., whew... dodged that one.

Interior should be done/installed, need to reinstall cluster/speedo/stereo, new speedo cables and I want to change over to Synchromesh in the 020 box.

Just an update - I've not managed to get to Wilmington during "normal business hours" to try and get the hotel ball wrapped up, but it is on my agenda later this week. Thanks for your patience.

You'll be getting into your Scirocco and driving to Cincy! And if not, then your whole family gets into your Vanagon(I think you have one, right?) and drive to Cincy. See, you have two options!

Getting excited to come down for my first Cincy experience!

Daun - Hopefully I'll have my electric conversion complete... If I brought a really long extension cord, do you think I could bum some electrons I'd be happy to pay some money to the 'rents for the electric bill - a full charge should be under about $2.

Also, on the place-to-stay front, I'm coming down from Dayton... I was planning on making the trip back up to my house at the end of the day, but if camping were an option I might just stay. If it's not, I've got plenty of floor space if anyone needs a free place to crash.

I imagine an extention cord wouldn't be a problem.

Hadn't really discussed the camping option with the 'rents since there wasn't much interest. It could be revisited. BTW, what are your plans this weekend? Since Punchbug will be in Dayton picking up bits for her trike, I'm trying to see if anyone wants to get together for a bit. Friday evening or Saturday afternoon but nothing is in stone yet.

I was hoping to get my recently acquired 87 16V up and running and make the trip down from Cleveland, but my little brother will be graduating from college that weekend in GA. Maybe next year.

Daun, are there "church" meetings this weekend? If so, I will have to bring something in the way of an "offerering". ....and yeah, let's make it a proper GTG...maybe I can finally gt my shift linkage adjustment perfected.....sounds like a plan, errr, no...not that, ummm, a proposed sequence of events. That's it! And Daun, will one of your vehicles fit that trike part and two people? I will be in one seater configuration.....but we could do a "Top Gear Challenge" since the car lost the last one by minutes due to me taking a wrong ramp at the border..... (the coupe was not enjoying the big headwind...the Scirocco OTOH was having a hell of a good time!) Anyway, we can work that out.

I suspect there will be some "churching" going on throughout the weekend. The congregation knows you're coming and is likely salivating by now.

Works for me. I think Bennett is on-board, and I got a PM from Andrew (of the Electric '82) as well. Anyone else want to join us in Dayton?

Funny I just sent you an e-mail about that. Yeah, I suspect it will fit in the wagon or the Tundra, so we can take one of them Friday. It's normally against my principles to drive from one airport to another but probably justifiable in this case.

Cathy, I can take look at your shifter, I got a neet trick, and its not in the Bentley

  28. 03-23-2012 11:58 AM #98
One trick not in the Bentley is: the width of the brake light socket (12V/21W) is the exact needed clearance (shifter in neutral whilst the adjustment).
With a new shift linkage repair kit thrown into the game it is like a new car.
A german folding rule will also do well.
