My buddy just blew the headgasket, and possibly cracked the block/head in his beater 2.5l 944. Any of you know a Porsche yard? Ideally we'd like a replacement engine with ancillaries. We just replaced the clutch last weekend.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

Well I am pretty sure there is one sitting in the Ramstein junk yard. It has been there for a long time. They just keep moving it around and won't seem to let anybody take anything off of it. I don't know why they are holding on to it. Maybe you could talk some sense into them!

Yeah, someone may have a claim on it already, ill call up there tomorrow.

And man, it is a beater. 944s are some of the most unreliable cars I've ever dealt with, especial if you buy them super cheap. which this one was. It made it from England to Ansbach, then the clutch disk exploded. Fixed the clutch disk, and the head basket exploded. We're not discounting the stupid water/oil cooler yet, and we still have yo do a comp check and leakdown test. Keep your fingers crossed!

Is that Tim's car? I know a buddy ( Tim), that has a red one in Katterbach, think he got it at the mwr auction, could be wrong though.

Actually, this DOES really sound like a VW.....those damn oil "coolers" are a headache, and I delete them from any car I get that has one. If you need an oil cooler, get an air/oil cooler, like what came on the early Scirocco & GTI.

As far as 944's go, I personally would never own one, since I've seen first hand that they like to blow trannys. I've lost count of how many 944's have gone to the Ramstein Junkyard for a blown tranny. I assume this is from the shock of the price of a new/used tranny.

They call it the "poor man's Porsche" for a reason...

I actually have a 280ZX Turbo back home, the REAL "poor man's Porsche." Never had a problem that wasn't my fault. (WAY too much boost!)

I'm actually looking for a "real" oil cooler for my G60 swapped cabby. Need to eliminate a point of failure before it fails.

I am lost on what a Ronal Type A look's like. I know what a Borbet Type A looks like.....I don't think it would be a problem re-painting them. Depends on the color and difficulty. Shoot me some pics to jonlott11@yahoo.com
