Thread: I got a Boxee last week. Tell me some tips & tricks.

I have my Boxee running movies off my wireless connection to my computer which has a 2 TB external drive with my movie coillection and my computer backup. I feel like I'm not using it to it's potential though. What are some things I can do with it?

Not sure what else you want to do.... App section has Netflix, spotify. Otherwise, I use my Local Movies, Music, TV Shows, and Pictures as slide shows.

(slide shows kinda suck on the Boxee, better than nothing, but leaves a lot to be desired)

I almost bought a Boxee for playing my MKVs off of my server but just saved the $100 and bought a WDTV Live instead.

I'll be interested to see what you do with it.

A what? I never heard of that. Is that something the Boxee can do?

That's what you need to get started, I don't care if you don't have a Boxee. You can run this and have a Boxee TV shows scrapper that will properly organize the stuff for you and you'll be watching TV shows on the Boxee/Apple TV/Stream boxes.

Sickbeard rules.. I've been using it for a while now, and get all my shows from it

If you can, use NFS for streaming to it. I (and countless others) lobbied hard for the Boxee dev team to open up NFS streaming and they FINALLY did it last year. CIFS and AFP were just too choppy in my experience, but so far I've only had 1 issue with streaming off my NAS with NFS (which I think was a bad rip, but couldn't replicate it so I ignored it, really). I had a network drop near my entertainment center, however, so mine is wired into a gigabyte switch....never tried the wireless.

Thanks, but I have no idea what all that means. I'll do some research though.

For movies, check out CouchPotato. It's like sickbeard... but for movies. You can use SickBeard and CouchPotato on the same box and use SABNZBD as your nzb manager and it'll organize everything for you using tv and movie filters for parsing what downloads go where.

Yep, that's how I do it.. Couchpotato isn't quite "done", but it is very functional, and works. It's just that it doesnt have any bells and whistles that sickbeard has for the tv side of things
