Can't help you with specific parts, but in shifter terms, what fits 02A fits 02C

    Not true!

The differentials are different, the right side axles are different and the shift towers on the transmissions are different. The internal selectors are the same in the transmissions and I would assume (but don't know for sure) that the box in the car is same.

TMTuning.com sells a short shifter kit for a B3/35i but I don't know if it will adapt to a 02C transmission.

there is nothing unique about the 02c shift tower. it's just a regular 02a/02j one.

(i'm currently running a new revision o2j one on my 02c)

as for short shifter. most 02a ones wont work, as the shift box in the passat is shallower to allow for the elevated tunnel). although i'm sure you could make one work by modifying the shift box.

Also running an 02J shift box and tower in the 02C here as well. Diesel Geek makes a great short shift kit for this tower.
