Benchmade 940 Osborne. I've had mine for 5 years of daily carry working as a rigger in a Naval Shipyard. I cut thick rope, mooring lines, cardboard, canvas, and sometimes I use it as a screw driver. I've tried buying a spare EDC knife, and every time I go back to the 940. If I ever buy another folding pocket knife, it will be another Benchmade to replace this one.

    Not much info here.

$300 is a lot for a knife, epically beating it up with daily carry. You can find good knives for half that.

You also might want to check up on local laws to see if there are any restrictions. What's legal in one city might not be in another. (where I work vs where I live)

For $300 here is what I'd do...

$100 - actual daily carry knife (beater)

$200 - a nice "dress" knife. I don't know if people have a term for it, but in the gun community they're referred to as "barbeque" guns. Basically a nice, ornate version to carry when wearing a tux, or in formal wear - or at a nice gathering etc.

I'd agree that there are really nice knives in less expensive ranges. If you have to roll the full amount or more, look at the Chris Reeve small Sebenza. I've owned one for over 15 years, and it's been a solid and reliable companion, all day every day, even in church on my wedding day. And, I've actually cut stuff with it. A lot of stuff, some that I probably shouldn't, and it just takes a quick touch up on the blade. It's taken on a great character of use. A, "good," knife should be like that over the years.

But, you don't have to spend $300 if you don't want to.

    Benchmade Infidel OTF.

That's what I'd get, but then my wife would use it on me for spending that much.

Not to mention it's not legal to carry in some states.

Daily carry means different things to different people. Any idea on the primary use? Hard to go wrong with a Zero Tolerance, Emerson, Benchmade etc..

Chris Reeve Small Sebenza can be had for around 300 dollars. Timeless classic especially after a few years of use, the sure to be scuffed and scratched titanium handles really adds character to the knife.

Just because it's not illegal for everyone doesn't mean it's legal for everyone. In WA state it's apparently only legal if you are ON DUTY law enforcement or military.

    RCW 9.41.250
Dangerous weapons — Penalty — Exemption for law enforcement officers.

    (1) Every person who:

    (a) Manufactures, sells, or disposes of or possesses any instrument or weapon of the kind usually known as slung shot, sand club, or metal knuckles, or spring blade knife, or any knife the blade of which is automatically released by a spring mechanism or other mechanical device, or any knife having a blade which opens, or falls, or is ejected into position by the force of gravity, or by an outward, downward, or centrifugal thrust or movement;

    (b) Furtively carries with intent to conceal any dagger, dirk, pistol, or other dangerous weapon; or

    (c) Uses any contrivance or device for suppressing the noise of any firearm unless the suppressor is legally registered and possessed in accordance with federal law,

is guilty of a gross misdemeanor punishable under chapter 9A.20 RCW.

    That's a retarded law.

So... HR 218 (a Federal Law) says a law enforcement officer is permitted to carry a firearm just about anywhere, but WA says you can't carry an auto-opening knife unless "on duty?" So, it's cool to carry a gun, but not a knife?

Well... if you're carrying a firearm, you're on duty. That solves that.

Agreed. WA's knife laws make very little sense.

And yes, I can carry a concealed pistol on my person, but I can't carry a fixed blade knife on my person because it could be classified as a "dirk or dagger".

I'd love to get the Benchmade Infidel OTF, but they're not legal here.
I would attempt to buy online, but it'd be risky for them to get stuck at the border...and that's assuming the seller would try to ship.

I'm leaning towards the Benchmade 940 Osborne.

    Thanks guys...

Is the Tanto blade just a matter of looks, or does it serve a purpose?

It's typically a fighting blade shape.
IIRC the shape results in a stronger tip.

I carry my Benchmade 9051SBK. Probably not the best reccomendation for all as it is a auto blade but we get permits for them.

300 is may to much for an EDC....there are many options for 150 and under...I personally love my Benchmade 890 Torrent...forget how much I paid but way less than 300.

If I still carried folders, I'd seriously look at the HEST folder.

Im surprised no one has mention emerson knives. Right in your price range and you wont find a better folder. If youre looking something a bit less spendy I like benchmade. Im currently carrying a 950 Rift.

Seeing you guys post about auto knives makes me happy to be in FL.

That's a fact. Mine is a GP box, paper & rope-cutter most times. Smaller is better and lightweight too so it doesn't drag on the pocket lip. Not knowing it is there until I need it is ideal. There is zero self-defense component to it. Just a handy tool to make my day easier. But, $300 for EDK? The way I've lost them, that amount would sting.

probably smaller then what you are looking for, but I have carried a Gerber 425 EZout locker for several years as a daily carry blade.
