    Hey guys,

Basically, as stated in the title, my bird won't stop humping his perches. Also, he won't stop regurgitating his food onto them (a normal courting behavior for those of you who aren't very familiar with bird behavior... it's just how often he does it that isn't normal). I'm an LVT and nothing I've ever been taught helps in this situation haha. And the practice I work at doesn't have any bird specialists.

Seriously, it's getting out of hand. He's doing it literally the whole day (except when I take him out, of course) and it just can't be healthy. Researching the topic online basically told me to try moving the perches around and switching up their location in his cage once in a while. It hasn't been helping at all!

I thought I'd ask and see if anyone on here has any ideas of what else can be done. If not I'm going to have to call up an avian vet I suppose.

    Thanks a lot!

Maybe if you wrap his perch in sandpaper or change the texture of it he wont find it so attractive
i have never had a bird nor know anything about them so this is just my best guess... good luck with your horny bird...lol

    Worth a shot!

I think it's getting more serious though and I'm going to have to take him to the vet. Yesterday I noticed that he has started picking at feathers by his crotch. That made me a little concerned. Then today, he came up the side of his cage when I went to say hi to him and he climbed up the side of it. When he did this, I saw that his cloaca (hole that birds poop/pee from) has some blood on it.

Worst part though... he STILL won't stop humping.

My temporary solution: I made him trade cages with my moms bird. He stopped. But I just got home and my mom switched them back because her bird seemed really scared in my bir's much bigger cage.

Good luck! I hope it helps

If not maybe put a fake love bird in his cage. He will either try to make some sweet sweet lovins to it or ashamed and not do if..well i guess if a bird had emotions. I can't help but laugh at this best pet thread ever!

Can a bird get a UTI ? Maybe it's itching him. Or he screwed a dirty bird and got the clap

The Australian ground parrot is critically endangered because of humanity (rats, dogs, cats, and habitat loss). As a result, the only video footage a documentary could get of a live one involved a very lonely male who humped the corpse of the only other ground parrot they saw during their time in Australia.

It's sad, but it may be that these birds just don't give up until they get some action. I say get him a real bird. Birds like to pair up and parrot-type birds are very social.
