Hey everyone.
I would like some help diagnosing a on / off hesitating in any gear I get when flooring it and even down to 35% throttle.
full throttle includes partial sluggish running, power loss mid range(2k -4.5k rpm), in any gear (usually 2-5). It revs just fine though, the idle is smooth, and also starts fine hot or cold. I did recently run out of gas, not sure if its a related to that though. I read CPS, TPS, plugs, wires , coil pack, any assistance or warnings would be appreciated.

I am having very similar problem... Though yours sounds more fuel related running out of fuel could get the crap that settles in your tank migrated into your pump or filter and clogged it or injectors also..would start easy first fuel filter, move on to clean injectors, seee how goes that
In addition mine will accelerate fine wot untill around 4-5 k then sounds like it flood s itself out, so would be lack of air? Maybe shop towel sucked in intake could cause this? Started happening after I did my intake cleaning.
Or maybe my new pcv on the way will fix

im having the same problem with my 96 vr, except my car seems to be more "progressed" into its problem. i will try to keep my story short for you. a couple of months ago i was just driving my car and it suddenly and randomly hesitated causing my car to slow down just for a moment. i thought maybe it was a clutch but i had no problems after that for a week or two. it only happened a couple times between then and now.
last week i was driving to work and the same thing occurred, i gave it more throttle hoping to keep it from bogging, but the more throttle i gave it the slower it went. so i down shifted into 3rd and brought it back to normal.
A few hours later i was driving home and the same thing happened twice, except the second time it happened i had to pull over because my car stalled. i was able to get it running after a short battle of starting and stalling. i was only about a mile from home but it was tough trying to get it home.
i was going up a slight incline in 2nd and 3rd gear in the powerband (starting between 3-4000 rpm) and my car was going slower and slower completely losing power.
SORRY THIS IS TURNING OUT LONGER THAN I THOUGHT, so finally i got the chance to look at it, pulled a few sensors as it was running nothing changed except when i pulled the blue connector in the thermostat housing (Coolant temp. sensor). before pulling the temp sensor it was idling rough, shaking and wanting to stall out.
i noticed that the ground wire on the connector was exposed which made sense why i had a fault code for that sensor (ive had that code for a long time). i went to the junk yard and got an engine harness, replaced the engine harness with a good one and im still having the problem.
so in conclusion i would try unplugging the blue sensor thats in the thermostat housing and see what that does for you. i wish i could tell you what i did to fix it but im a little lost myself. if anyone finds out let me know and if i end up fixing it i will help out. and again im sorry for the long post but this car is making me crazy.

I'm having the same issue after I picked up my car from the shipper yesterday. Worst part was I had a 600 mile road trip after a 10 hour flight, so having the issue sucks! I unplugged the connector going to the top of the throttle body and it has fixed the issue. I am assuming that is a throttle position sensor? Not really sure, the only dealership is 3 hours away so I can't just run in and ask. Anybody have any insight?
