As the title states we are working to get a No Skating Ordinance in Doylestown PA taken off the books. This is a 25yr old ordinance that was put on the books as a knee jerk reaction to a crew that was defacing a public war memorial and hitching rides up the long hill in the borough on the bumpers of cars. Our case for the repeal has a few facets being, but not all inclusive:
• Skating is a form of transportation
• Skating is a healthy form of exercise
• Skating, in itself is not a crime
• The borough does not have a public (free) area to skate
• The ordinance is outdated and needs to be repealed or revised to fit current times.
What I need form the community is support by signing our petition at Change.org ,
Petition: Borough Hall 57 W. Court Street Doylestown, PA 18901 215-345-4140: Repeal the Ordinance that Bans Skateboarding | Change.org
Secondly, Does anyone know of a comprehensive list of towns on the East Coast that have a blanket ban on skating? Web search is pulling up very little but when I poke around I hear comments from skaters that their towns do have bans.
Lastly, If there is a lawyer that is willing to donate a few hours to look over what is on the books and what we are trying to get accomplished it would be most appreciated.
Thanks for the time and consideration in helping with this effort.
Whatever happened to the signed petition? There was enough signatures last time I checked. I know because mine was past the quota needed. Or is this the next step? This ordinance is weak, everyone needs to back this! Coming from West Chester, the difference is so huge when looking at how these kids hang out. Being 31 I am a little older, but i'll always support skating. It gives kids an avenue to exercise and stay out of trouble.
Thanks for your support and please spread the word. The petition and movement is still alive. Local Press has picked up the cause and we are working with local residents and business people to get this off the books.
