I am going to be replacing the outer front CV boot this coming weekend (Old one is torn/just tore this past week). I want to keep the stock joint as I feel it is likely a much better quality part than remanufactured or complete half shaft assemblies that can be bought for under $100 bucks. Am I correct in thinking that after removal of the half shaft and cutting off the old boot, I should be able to pound off the joint with a brass drift aligned substantially with the half shaft, pressing against the cage that holds the balls in with the joint at a pretty good angle, or are there circlips that need to be removed as well prior to this. Thanks for any/all suggestions, just don't want to mangle it trying to bang it off if there are additional steps I am missing!

On a side note, how much would be reasonable for a shop to charge for this job? (Just curious)

P.S. wish I had one of these: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oEKY0uFlBpc
