Just had a 3rd interview and scheduled a 4th with a company in Loveland near Centerra. Looks like it could be promising but I can't imagine making the commute from Lakewood every day, I'd kill a mutha..

Anyone up that way have recommendations for cheaper neighborhoods to look at for rentals? Any areas that I should avoid? Any of the small towns or BFE rural areas (west of I25) that are worth a look?

    Thanks in advance all.

I lived in Loveland for a total of 2 weeks, it's a **** hole. Traffic is a nightmare, everything is a pain in the ass to get to. I'd move to Fort Collins if I were you. I ended up moving to Longmont since it was closer to Boulder. If I had to do it again, I'd move to Fort Collins. Just my 2 cents.

Lol I have NO idea what she's talking about. I moved to Loveland 2 years ago from Florida and I love it here. The only place that traffic MIGHT get slow is from Denver Ave to Centerra on US 34, and only during rush hours. I commute up 34 every day to Windsor and I make it there in 20 minutes all the way from downtown Loveland. As far as everything being a pain in the ass to get to? I don't see how when everything you could possibly need is right on 34. There is so many fun hang out spots here, mellow coffee shops and parks, the lake, and a straight shot to Estes. If you're more of the bar/club type you're only 15 - 20 minutes from Old Town Fort Collins. Personally I wouldn't live in Fo Co because College Avenue IS an absolute nightmare during rush hours between Swallow and Mulberry.

Just like ANY city theres parts that are worse than others. All depends on your definition of "bad". There are some transient trash areas outside of downtown - but that area is small.

If I were you, I'd come up here for a day. Drive through Loveland and Fort.Collins during rush hours and see what you think. Get some addresses together of some rental listings and come check out the neighborhoods. Henderson Management usually has inexpensive listings in mostly decent areas.

I just love this place. Don't make your decision based on anyone's opinions though - come check out the cities. Just for reference, even with morning traffic, I'm at Centerra in less than 10 minutes. I've never heard anyone say it's a "**** hole" here.

    Good luck to you!

Thank you both for your opinions. My interview is at 8 am Thursday, so it looks like I'll get a chance to see what rush hour is like. Joy.

No, I'm interviewing with Constant Contact. Should I be interviewing with CC Imperial?

I'd never get any dancing done if I didn't get stuck at red lights.. maybe I should rethink this..

Haha! I always like watching people read my stickers at red lights.

And no... I think CC is some kind of gimmick. 48 hours a week at minimum wage. Lol

The school zone on 34 seems like it would throw a wrench in the daily commute but if the stars align and I get the job, I really hope to take advantage of pedaling around such a flat city.

of course if I get the job I'll be asking for bar and restaurant recommendations

It is only about 5 blocks long, and only adds less than a minute to your trip. I live just west of that by the lake. I wouldn't sweat it.

I live in Longmont, easy commute to work to Loveland. Traffic moves, soccer moms and idiots are minimal. I still think Loveland sucks. Fort Collins just has WAY more stuff to do and places to eat.

I'm in Firestone which isn't too far from Loveland. Not a whole lot of apartments around but you can find the occasional basement apt. Found one on Craigslist for $500 with a garage. I think it was in Mead.

I lived in Loveland for almost 4 years on the west side of town. I liked it, but it's a smaller town with not much action. I'm a quiet kinda guy with a family, so the lack of night life wasn't a detraction for me. If you're single and/or a partyer you're not going to like it so much.

Not any real traffic to speak of, although I wasn't a fan of taking US34 from the west side of town all the way out to Centerra, just took awhile.

So yeah, got the job, start march 5th. Sweet!

DocWyte, I gave up my partying days years ago. Though I do wish you would have said that single women would be beating my door down.. Oh well.

It's certainly a lot cheaper than Denver and it seems easier to find places willing to accept Franklin the Killer Chihuahua. Looks like I'll be staying with my niece and her GF in Greeley for a few weeks. Gives me some time to feel the city out.

yeah Greeley.. it will be temporary and I wouldn't be doing it but a 16 mile drive one way beats 60 any day of the week.

Greeley isn't too bad , just smells sometimes. My boyfriend grew up there and he says you get used to it. If you're low and end up driving through some of the streets just be careful - some of them aren't very "low car friendly". Lol. You'll be fine

Awesome. Constant Contact is right next to our lab, and just down the street from our HQ (for the moment). I work at Abound Solar (again, that might be changing very soon). Those solar panels just east of Constant Contact are our test panels.

The apartments next to the lake, across from the hospital, go for roughly $1,800/month, but the view across the lake and into Rocky Mountain National Park is fuching incredible.

Obviously, I work with a bunch of people who live in Loveland. They like it a lot. Though, they seem to go into FoCo all the time to do stuff. To buy a house up here is comparatively less than somewhere like Thornton or Westy. If you like straight up suburbia, you can find that in Loveland quite easily. If you want something of an Old Town feel, FoCo is for you.

I live in Broomfield. The commute is incredibly easy.

    Congrats on the new job!!

Loved in Loveland all my life. I go to school in Lakewood and make the commute you would have made. Loveland and foco rocks. Loveland cops are a bit edgy though and there is good cruising in foco on Friday and Saturday.

Oh, I'm still making the commute. Been having a difficult time finding a place I like and can afford, that will also allow my chihuahua. Can't wait to get up here full time though!

It's such a great area! The commute isn't all that bad. I live in Lakewood during the week for school and come down to Loveland for the weekends. The loveland cops aren't as nice as the Lakewood cops, as far as I've experience, but I like Loveland so much.

So... I saw this thread and thought I would inquire. We are looking to make the move from chicago hopefully in the next coming months. Currently work at a VW/Audi shop just north of chicago called dubwerks. My question is are there any local Performance shops and what are the areas to stay away from in Boulder county?

Parts of Boulder county to avoid? Any of the areas within the border? Longmont maybe?

Check the resource thread for shops in the area, there are a few.

I went to SCR for my rebuild and tune last year. I've also had them do some odds and ends here and there when I didn't have the time or equipment to do for myself. They're good guys over there. I usually deal with Peter. Jennifer is the girl up front (I think she posted in this thread). I'd highly recommend them.
