The Cross Polo "looks the coolest" to me of your choicest... for whatever that's worth![]()

Just bought it today, detached house included.
Catch, 60mile each way, 4days per week commute, so the Yeti has to go post-haste.
Likely candidates (high mpg/low milage/diesel/cruise control):
2011 VW Golf 1.6 TDI (105Hp)
2011 Mini Clubman D (109Hp)
2011 Mazda 3 D (109Hp)
2011 VW Polo Cross 1.6 TDI (90Hp)
2009 Honda Civic 2.2 i-CDTI (140Hp)
Kinda tempted by that Civic, but I suspect absolute best milage would be had with the Polo - even better with a bluemotion.

Congrats! Looks like very nice house!
As for a new car, I guess the Polo would be the best of your candidates![]()

Get the Mazda, it's in 3D.

congratulations! looks like a very nice place, not too big, not to small and a nice spacious, private garage to play in with an even roomier driveway. I'm a a little confuse though, where's the front door? Is it in the back?![]()
As for the car choices, I like the looks of the Cross Polo the most, but the Civic has at least 30 hp on the rest the torque split should be even higher. That one would most like be the most fun to drive of the bunch.

From what I learned in Oslo two months ago, most people in Norway (EU?) get the Polo because it's only slightly smaller than the Golf, just as good, but much cheaper. I'd look into one of those a little more. Are the Mini's cheap there?
Also congrats on the house! The white trim w/black roof is my favorite style Norwegian house. What town are you in now?

Congrats on the new place. That looks nice a decent garage.

Congratulations! Welcome to home ownership.
The garage looks pretty big for Europe. (as it seems to us in the U.S.) Is it comparatively so? If so, is that what made you pick this particular house?![]()

Out of the cars you posted I would pick the Polo. The Polo TDI (1.4L, 70hp) my dad had impressed me. Wasn't slow at all in city traffic and yet it didn't need much diesel. It got better mpg than my older Lupo TDI (1.4L, 75hp). I can only imagine how good they have become.
p.s. And a Volvo 240 as a project car now that you have (what seems to be) a big garage??![]()

Very cool!! My vote goes to the Polo TDI. That thing looks great!!![]()

Hey, Dawg Dee-Lux... Is the new Fiesta 3 cylinder available yet? I know it's close to making it's debut in England, but I don't really know about it's rollout schedule. I have my eye on that one. 125 hp out of a 1 liter doesn't sound bad at all. I believe you're taxed on displacement, right? If so, that would have to help!![]()

Thanks!
My better half is from this town, and we have been looking for an older/grander house for quite a while now. This one is from 1917 - but there has been done a great deal of restoration from 1998 till now. Garage is from 2008, and fits about 2 1/2 cars.
Some interior shots, my better half was sold on that kitchen - no joke!

We are taxed on weight, horsepower and co2, the latter replaced displacement in 2008 I think.
Going to have a close look at a Golf 1.6 TDI Highline this weekend - found one at a very good price - according spritmonitor.de 50mpg is attainable for strict highway.

That house is GORGEOUS!

Holy **** that's far from Oslo! My fiance has an aunt in Sarpsborg and although we didn't stop there over the summer, we did pass through on the train to Göteborg.
Also that interior is amazing. I take it the floor near entrance is heated? Winter in Norway can't be that bad when your house is as cozy as that.

Have you considered taking the train to work? You could park a beater at the nearest train station to your job then simply drive from there?

It's easy to "hypermile" in a TDI. A free flowing highway, a constant speed of around 100-120kp/h (depends on the gearing of the car) and the will to "see what happens" is all you needMy dad and I got 3.4 liters per 100kms in said Polo driving to Italy once. We filled up at the luxembourgish-gemran border (41 liters) and 1000kms later the instrument cluster was indicating that there was one quarter of the tank left. And we did it in 10:30 minutes.
And now back to your house: It is simply beautiful, I love the fireplace. Again, congratulations!
I know what you mean. I've never been in the USA and so I can't really compare the driving habits and traffic flow. And I do therefore ask myself if I'd drive one in the US if they were offered there. Who knows? But if you should ever have the chance to drive a TDI (if you didn't have it until now) go for it.![]()

How very uneuropean of you!
I have a 55 mile each way drive... However, most of it's the Autobahn and I carpool with a co-worker.
Good luck on the car search!
BTW - your house is awesome!![]()
