I'd like to give the GW a better stance, and would like to add spacers to it.

    Here is what I have:

Wheel type: ‘Avignon’ light alloy wheels
    Wheel size: 7J x 17, ET54
    Tire size: 225/45 R17 Conti's
    Stock suspension.

What size spacers would I need to bring the wheels out a bit, without any rubbing, fender rolling etc...? 8mm, 10mm?
I'm pretty sure I would have to replace all wheel bolts to a longer size, what type (ball seat=OEM wheels/conical=aftermarket?) and length should I buy?

    Thanks...

    Bought spacers, 10mm all around.
Q: is it normal for the spacer diameter to be smaller than the wheel hub?

    10mm

    Spacer - 10mm

    diameter?

don't mind the crappy iPod Touch low res pics.

10.5 or 12.5mm would look great for the rears / 8mm in the front - no issues rubbing

    Would 10mm rub up front?
Would 8mm be better all the way around then? Not crazy about the dragster look of un-equal spacer front to back.

Are you going to lower this car? 10.5 or 10mm will also be fine up front with stock wheels.

I'd love to, but not in the near future.
Most likely sport springs only, with a modest drop, 1"-1.5" only.

Sounds good, 10 or 10.5mm will bring the wheels out some and be a great upgrade to stock or on sport springs!

What ET are the Huffs? Can you post pics?
What kind of drop did you get from the springs?

I had 10 on the front and 12 on the back with my Goals; the rear rubbed on little tabs on the backside of the bumper. I trimmed them and it no longer rubbed. My car is fairly low though.

Need to get those spacers again.

your wheels are a couple of inches from your fender line. If you rub at all it's because you've hit some pretty nasty bumps over and over again. If you're really worried, get the OEM suspension limiters from the dealer... which VW wants people to use who go to larger wheels so that the sloppy factory suspension doesn't bounce so much that you rub.

If you got some coilovers and dropped the car an inch or so.. you'd actually have almost no chance of rubbing, since the suspension wouldn't articulate nearly as much.

anyway.. to give you an idea, with your wheels a 20mm spacer would bring the face out so that it's almost exactly flush with the fender. A 10mm is half way in between.... and that's probably what most people will suggest that you run.

Did the 10/12mm combo give you the dragster look, or was it unnoticeble?
What size (length) wheel bolts did you order?

The 10/12 actually made the wheels look spaced out evenly. If you look closely the rears are tucked in slightly more than the fronts to begin with. This is more pronounced when the car is lowered.

I don't recall what the bolt lengths were. timmiller05 took care of that for me when I ordered them. He's a vw parts guy and an H&R authorized dealer (and H&R happens to be down the street from him).

I'm pretty sure that pic has both on. It's hard to tell on the front with the wheel turned. I took the fronts off because they were rubbing when I lowered it more. Actually they would sometimes catch the fender lip on big bumps or steep driveways, while I was turning, but I was pretty low.

Honestly it looked ok with even just the rear spacers on. I may buy just a set of 10s and throw them on the back only for now, and then if I decide I want the fronts spaced out, buy the 12s later and move the 10s to the front.

May I semi-hijack this thread with a wheel spacer inquiry for my setup?

    VW Sagitta 19" x 8"
    41mm offset
    235/35R19 tires
    approx 1.8" drop F & R

With 235s + your drop and offset, I think you're close to having rubbing issues as it is. Maybe just a 5mm in the rear to even out the reverse wheel stagger that oem wheels have?

What look are you going for?

a bit of poke, with a dash of fender flush?

I thought about the 5mm, but also thought it might not even make a difference...also, if I did get spacers, I also thought I will have to remove the fender lining

I've had my 8mm front / 15mm rear Motorsport Tech spacers on my stock 17" Portos and had minimal rubbing in the rear and no rubbing up front on ST Coilovers.

Sits about as flush as you'd want it to in the back. Front could use a 10mm.

    So now I'm curious-
VW designed the suspension with 1" greater track in front than the rear. i imagine this for straight line stability and perhaps dial in the desired amount of understeer? does pushing the rear out increase understeer? or is 10-15mm too little to make a difference? i'm no suspension guru so i thought i'd ask.

Hey Im running 20mm H&R DRA's on my Portos Im lowered down to the fenders you may get a finger under the fronts. Rubbing happens but not a real big deal mostly when Im loaded and hit big dips. Did the Tab mod and the fender liner mod but no rolling done yet.
    Definitely do-able

Didn't want to have to cross that bridge (inner fender "massaging", etc.), but I may have to in the name of flush-ness...
    :sighs:

finally bought spacers, 10mm all around.
Is it normal for the diameter of the spacer to be smaller than the wheel hub?

Keep it "square" all around. I'd go 10mm spacers on all four corners. I like ECS's spacers. Make sure they have the hub lip to avoid vibration.
