The wheels are really nice Kole.

Well after waking up at 8am, going to 3 different shops & trying dyi style mounting the tires are not mounted.
tired fire, cheetah and bike tubes all with no luck. The wheel is a double drop center wheel which make mounting any type of stretch almost impossible.
We'll see what happens. They maybe going back if I can not get them to mount as I need the stretch for them to to be able to fit the car correctly.
Sorry for no content guys. Bummed and tired from running around all day.

Cheetah with tow rachet straps making the tire wider. It's how we had to mount my rears.

Ok guys here is what is going on.
The wheels are going back into Davids hands at Memory Fab. The wheels are going to get re-built with new barrels that are not double drops. This will solve my mounting issues and let me run the tire sizes I want.
I can't thank David enough for with all his help with these wheels and taking them back to make them work.
I will also be running some temp wheels as mine are getting re-built which im also really stoked to run.

Ok it's been a bit since an update So lets do this...
the wheels are back at Memory fab in David's hand. He is working on fitting new barrels on my wheels so tires will finally mount on them, well at at least the size tires I need
I got up this morning and replaced my Purge Valve. Hoping this solves my evap leak. If not ill have to replace the canister next which I'm really hoping I do not have to do that since its a really big pain..
other than that im just saving up and getting ready for H2O.![]()

I think those wheels need some sort of flat cap, or maybe half height... can't wait to see them though.

Well since someone asked I guess I'll do an update.
I have been busy getting ready for H2O most of all, getting our rental paid off and saving for the trip as it will be my only vacation all year so lady and I want to enjoy it.
After Andy P. bugged me for months about doing it I finally redid my trunk set up for the air ride. Went over to Andy's house in the morning and we started on the build. I stripped my trunk out and cleaned everything in the trunk. Plained and going to get the materials took the longest but it was all worth it. pretty much all the wires are hidden, the pressure switch is going to get moved to the side of the tank to hide it as well.
Before.
After.
Still have to make a cover for the new set up I'm a lot happier with the new setup.
Little mod that I got from Andy...
Went to Zack's house Sunday and thought it would be fun to try on some Th-Lines. To bad Jay built them so wide and with such low offsets.
Now on to my wheel issues. As stated before the barrel profile on the wheels makes it almost impossible to mount and good amount of stretch, which I need. So I sent the wheels back David's way so see if he could be build them. But in the last few months I have had a lot of things come up and a lot of things happen that have made money really tight for me and my family. I just don't have the income or the time to help david prototype the wheels right now. So I got my money so I could pick up something cheaper and pay some bills. David fully understood were I was coming for and where I am at. I would tell anyone to use Memory Fab for refinishing and wheel rebuilding needs still It's just not in my cards right now.
But I did pick up something cheaper that I'm still really happy to have picked up....
17x8.5 et13 and 17x10 et20 Borbet Type A's
I have always wanted a set just never found any in good spec's. I know it's be done and blah blah blah... I don't care I wanted a set and Im stoked for them to get here.
Also went back to my normal ways
I still have tons of work to do before H2Oi. Wheels will be shipped out Monday so I should get them Friday or Monday. Tires will go on the day after they get here. The rest will get done over the next month. And yes I will be updating this more I have been in hiding this season but I'm ready to hang with everyone at H2O and I'll be around at more shows next year now that I have vac and sick days now at work.

Love the Type A's and am looking forward to chillen at H20.
Might need to talk you into selling my the A's when you get your splits back.
#329
What day are you getting into town Tom? I'll be on the strip around 2pm on Thursday.
That is as long as my H2O curse does not hit me this year. Every year I go something happens to the GTI. 2010- lip broke, busted the oil pan and folded a fender. 2011- rear bag blew and a bad set of wobble bolts striped 1/5 lug holes on 3 hubs. Looking for a claim trip this year since the lady and dog will be with me.

No updates on the MKV. Type A's will be here Wed's
I spent the morning getting the lady's car in order. New rear tires on the Alphards. Switched from the stupid 225/40 that have been on them since I bought them in 2010 to a set of 215/40 512's
Next thing for her car is to raise the motor to help takes some stress off the cv's.

Update.
Well my luck seems to say bad. The Type A's got here with me thinking they minty and in great shape. That was far for what I got as you can read here..

The faces were spray painted, terribly
The lug hole have been milled larger, terribly
one wheel was bent
two wheels had cracks in them.
So they will not be on the MKV. So this what you'll see at H2O.

Been a fan of your car for a long time dude. Sorry to hear about the bad luck; looks great with the alphs regardless.

Well since all the trade offers I seem to get are not what I want I'm just going about and fixing some issues. I placed this order today....
All H2Oi prep. nothing crazy just service stuff but still makes me feel better to take care of the car. but those 20mm spacers will be fun 18x9.5 et20 will be the final offset for the rears now.
I still have to pick up oil on the way home and have to find somewhere around me to do a alignment so I don't destroy a set of tires going to and from Maryland and then all thats left is pull the rest of the tint off the windows and finish my trunk cover.

this happen and life moves on. To be honest it's ok with me know since im doing all the service items the GTI needed and will be driving smooth to H2O. maybe this year I can there and back without any issues for the first time haha (fingers crossed)
2010- hit possum broke my votes lip and ruined my shaved bumped and then broke an oil pan 5 hours later.
2011- blew a rear bag and stripped out 3 lug holes due to bad wobble bolts. drove the car home with ksport springs in the rear with air lift shocker. Aka rear bumper was almost dragging![]()

I love this car. If I had known you were going to have so much trouble with your wheels I would have just sold back your RS. I fell in love with them on your car but I never liked them as much on mine.

Ok so update time!
in the past 48 hours I have...
-replaced the wipers
-replaced the coil packs and spark plugs
-replaced my cabin filter
-replaced my cam follower
-put 20mm spacers on the rear (making the Alphards 18x9.5 et20)
-blew a rear bag
-tapped out the frame to use better bolts than what airlift supplies you, which are self tapping screws...
-replaced rear bag and played around with it's mount to make sure the bag was centered.
-pulled the rear arches to allow for et20
-put my new steering on
I still have to do an oil change and a few other little odds and ends to clean up the rear more but it's getting there for sure.
New wheel
The screws air lift gives you on the left :shifty and the bolts I tapped the frame out for.
Getting gas this evening, come together day by day.
