Hey guys and gals, just had a crazy idea to do some custom gun coating on my new pistol. Looking for pictures of a specific camo pattern on guns, mainly handguns but rifles are ok too...

The pattern i like is the German Flecktarn, like this...

What im thinking is doing just the frame and slide or maybe just the frame or just the slide and having the grips and controls stay black.

Rather than looking at just guns check this out:

FWIW this is my favorite camo. I have an authentic KLMK suit from the 1980s Afghan war:

I have no vested interest in this outfit, but this is a company ran by a fellow gun guy, it is a printing business and he does a lot of firearm work. I found him as he posts on the subguns boards

    I'll ruin the party here...

Unless you want to stand out at the range, and cringe everytime someone touches your rifle, or you rub it against something, ignore the hydro-print services, and ignore the fancy detailed paint jobs.

The more time consuming/attention to detail-oriented/expensive your paint job or hydro-graphics job is....the more you'll fret.

If you want the rifle to actually be camo'ed, just rattle can it. Effective, cheap, and if it scratches you can spray it again eventually.

If you want a pattern similar to your beloved Flectarn, I can show you how to do it...but it won't be 100%. It involves some rattle cans, wax paper, and a natural sponge.

I was thinking of doing it in Cerakote, its just a thought for now. If I do decide to do it im gonna do it well, as in no rattle can. I might consider rattle caning a shotgun but not my Sig Sauer.

    what elbows said.

I alumahyded one of my AR's.. the upper, lower and handgaurd were all either used or blem but quality parts..

there were lots of scratches and gouges.

Its scratched off in some places (shell deflector) but if and when it gets scratched it doesn't confront me..

if I spent a month of sundays preping and cleaning and designing these fancy camo patterns I probably would be to worried about scratching it to even use it.

they do look cool but I'd rather not have to worry.. its not like a collectors piece.

I've never got the custom snazzy paint jobs on guns. Nothing gets me more excited that worn parkerizing or bluing. I like shiny sharp edges.

I did, however, Aluminahyde a floor grate in my house and it has held up for 10 years of constant traffic with out a scratch.

Alumahyde II when properly set is simpley fantastic. This lower was Alumahyded and has held up well (though metal on metal will eventually give way if this ever gets used and abused)

One of my AKs (my go-to rifle) has been painted a few times, mainly Krylon and Aervoe paints.

(the one on the top obviously, excuse the mess, its on a rug I put in front of my tool box when I'm gonna be standing there a long time)

admittedly I should have painted it in a warmer area, it was a bit colder then the instructions required, I shot it a week after it was painted and due to the low temp I don't think it was quite curred.. it is now.

some of those designs up top are making me want to buy some od green alumahyde and give a camo pattern a shot. I'm sure I'll butcher it all to hell though
