Watching the Terminator(1984) the other night, I got to thinking, after the T1 finished eliminating all 3 Sarah Conner's, what was next for him, not like he can go back?

He could run for Governor, marry a Kennedy, maybe bang his maid?

He'd try to find a way to destroy himself without being found out, I suppose.
I know he can't "self terminate" but he could allow someone to destroy him to the point he wouldn't be discovered for what he was.

^^ Uh.. what? He's the TERMINATOR. Wtf does he care about being found out. He's not the second T-800 re-programed by the human race, this one is programmed to destroy the human race. While true his tech could arguably be used against Skynet if its left in the 80s, but it doesn't seem like this one was programmed to be that smart. It's mission was purely to kill. After the primary mission is complete, he'll move on to the secondary mission, which is to destroy all humans. He'll take on the 80s all by himself until his last drop of energy, just like how he still tries to choke-a-bitch under the machine-squashing thingy.

Put the guns down, it's only a movie.

Cannot self terminate, but can certainly carry out actions that directly lead to its termination if programming dictates.

T-800 asked to be lowered into molten steel.
T-850 blew itself up with a hydrogen fuel cell in order to progress towards completing a mission.
I-950 contained a bomb and was programmed to blow it up in close proximity to a target, thus terminating itself in the process.

If a terminator is programmed with a mission that entails it being terminated, then so be it.

if he wasn't blown up and crushed then skynet wouldn't have had a chip to make it go self aware.

also in the original script he was looking for the scar that Sarah had on her leg. From when he got pipe hip bombed and a piece of him injured Sarah.

for a while, this was my favorite movie of all time.

The rebels had a secret weapon to send back in case Reese failed.

The TV show addressed this: the Terminators are immortal. They don't have to jump back to their time once the mission's accomplished, they just park themselves somewhere that records show wasn't destroyed by Skynet's nukes (one simply walled himself up in a building) and wait for the timeline to catch up.

Yeah, I thought the TV show answered this pretty well. They basically put themselves in safe locations and then went into hibernation mode. I also liked the one that took a wrong turn in Albuquerque and wound up in the 1920s.

I enjoyed Sarah Connor Chronicles more than T3. Sad that another good science fiction show was cut short.

Every time they sent a terminator back in time, it altered the future. That's why they kept sending terminators back. The series was really good. What was the last movie? T-4?

I've still only seen Terminator and Terminator 2. And as much as I love them I can't believe I haven't seen anything else.

That one was kind of a disappointment. I keep thinking from the first one that John Connor won the war and smashed the time machine, but terminators kept being sent back in time. Nothing has really reconciled with that in my mind.

It all depends on how you look at it...

First, Salvation takes place before John Connor sends Kyle Reese back to 1984.

Second, you can't change the future...

Isn't the theme of T2 "The future is not set - there's no fate but what we make"? Early in the voice-over narrative for T4: Salvation, Connor says the machines are much more advanced than he'd expected based on what his parents told him.

exactly. and why I consider the series final movie to be T2 like James Cameron did.

They need to just do it right - make one two hour long FX laden kick butt humans vs robots movie, do it WELL, and call it a day. The best parts of T1 and T2 that I loved were always the flashback sequences - give me two hours of that and ditch the BS.

I genuinely hated the TV series, and I struggled through most of season one, and started season two, but kept shutting it off...

I thought it started strong, and I can re-watch the first ep again and again, but it quickly lost its way as they added more and more characters and the threads became a tangled mess. Favorites of mine, aside from the pilot, are when John was locked in a bomb shelter with a dormant Terminator, when he went to Mexico and Cromartie found him, and when we learned what Cameron does all night while everyone's asleep.

I thought the series was excellent. A few episodes were weak but I loved the idea of the proxy war leading up to Judgment Day. I also liked that some Terminators developed a sense of morality and began to have empathy for humans.

Every time I watch my Blu Ray copy of The Terminator, I wish they would give the film to Industrial Light & Magic to ditch the stop motion metal terminator in the climax of the movie and splice in a CGI version. The rest of the movie holds up very well. Dirt bikes, Harleys, and 18-wheelers never look dated.
