The VW Driving Experince is on again. Melbourne and Sydney are booked out, but there's still spots in Adelaide, Perth and Brisbane.

It's really worth making the effort to go. The instructors were great and everyone was friendly. Great fun and I probably learnt a thing or two

Bah, you have to pay for it. I do similar things for free all the time with nicer cars. (sorry Pete, didn't mean to make you jealous haha)

Dang, I was kinda hoping to make the trip to Phillip Island in August, but if it's sold out I guess I missed the boat.

I got the final Evolution booking at Phillip Island.

It's on Thursday 9 August at 1pm. Now I guess I'll have to try and convince them that I have the required experience.

PM me if you'd like a 50% discount coupon for the INSIGHTS course. It's intended for new drivers and It brings the course down to $100.

    Course details

The four-hour session begins with a briefing to outline the structure of the day. Participants are then allocated an instructor within a group of three and are taken to the track for an assessment and to reconnect with the basics of vehicle dynamics.

Participants are then put through their paces on the track and skidpan in a series of exercises including slalom, swerve and avoid, as well as wet weather steering and braking. Instructors personally coach each participant, building confidence and improving performance in each exercise.

Drivers also have the opportunity to get behind the wheel and experience the latest in Volkswagen vehicle technology, in what is a fun and engaging half day program.

    Key skills in this course:

    Driving position (seating & steering)
    Brake and throttle application
Understanding and demonstrating vehicle safety features
Wet weather car control (using safety features)
    Managing fatigue

    Vehicles:

    Polo 77TSI Comfortline (DSG)
    Golf Wagon 118TSI Comfortline (DSG)
    Golf 118TSI Comfortline (DSG)

Looks like fun, but they could have added maybe a GTX or R car in the mix.

Not yet mate. I'm going to do it over two days to spread the driving, but I haven't booked leave or a hotel yet.

    What are your plans mate?

I did the "progression" course today. Good times. The R is a lot of fun, though it really isn't a whole lot different to the GTI at the level we were driving.

Needed a few more laps, though, only had three in the R and three in the GTI.

I kinda want a Mallala and a Golf R in the backyard...

At this stage thinking of flying down on Wednesday, home on Friday. Am trying to blag a press car from BMW ... fingers crossed.

Whatever happens, reckon we should try and meet in Melbourne and drive to PI as a Tex posse.

All sorted, fly into Melbourne on Wednesday morning, depart on Saturday morning.

Have a 520i for Wed-Fri courtesy of BMW. Two spare seats to PI if Pete or Chris would like a lift?

I'm planning on being down there for only two days, so I don't think I'll be able to car-pool.

    Have you booked a room?
Will there be a Melbourne GTG?

My session is on Friday, as opposed to your Thursday... Up for a GTG regardless, I have the week off. (Maybe I should see if I can switch to Thursday. Hmmm)

Note also that the PCV has a hillclimb on the Sunday @ Haunted Hills. Could be fun to spectate

The evolution course was very similar to the progression course but still fun. There were only two drivers per instructor so we got more seat time.

The weather was pretty crappy and grip levels in the Scirocco were poor so the speeds were a much lower than last year.

Good to see Liam and the Mrs. too.
