I never thought I'd make a "What car should I buy" thread, but here's my dillemma:

What manufacturer is offering a 4-Door sedan, with a V6 and a manual transmission???

I've used the "build a car" feature on the respective websites and was surprised to rule out the following:

      Mazda 6
      Ford Fusion
      Honda Accord
      Toyota Camry
      Nissan Maxima (Very surprised)
      Nissan Altima

      New Jetta doesn't offer a V6?
Passat offers a VR6 but no manual trans...
Subaru Legacy has the flat-6 but no manual (and looks like crap anyway)...

      This sucks...

Oh, and it would be nice to find something at or under $30k with this combo.

*Edit* Nevermind, the Acura TSX doesn't have a V6 6-Speed combo available...

I know there are a lot of fun and fast 4-Cylinder cars with 6-speeds, but I like the power and smoothness (and sound) of a 24v V6...

I'm sure I am missing something. Please advise oh great TCL, what else is out there?

Based upon wanting a n/a V6 dd. I would open up to a 4cyl Turbo myself.

Nothing like this exists anymore because nobody buys them. Sorry.

      Maybe if you're lucky you'll find a leftover G37?

You'll have to go used. This combination has died out because 4 cylinder engines are as powerful as the v6s of the 90s, and automatics have become sportier too.

I'd recommend a previous gen Accord or TL with the 6 speed.

I think CPO would be your only option. BEcause the only cars I can think of that offer sedan, v6 (I6), and standard are Infiniti G, BMW 3/5, Caddi CTS (ats if it comes), Lexus is250 and Acura

      They discontinued the 3.5 6spd Altima? That's dumb. I had an '03 v6 spd w/cloth. Decent config, I thought.

TSX V6 is automatic only. You can get the TL with a V6/6-speed/AWD but it is $44k.

You can get V6/6-speed Accord and Altima coupes, but that is it from the mainstream automakers. Cheapest new is probably the IS250, TL, 328i or G37.

If you don't mind going used, I would suggest looking for a previous-gen Accord V6/6-speed sedan. They are excellent. If you can deal with a coupe, my dad has a '11 Accord V6/6-speed coupe and the thing is a hoot.

The Lexus IS250 manual comes close. It has a dealer invoice of $30,200, so it's possible you could get one below 30k on a leftover 2011 model.

*Edit* I mis-read the Acura site. TSX 6-speed is not the V6

As much as I wouldn't mind a Coupe, the car would be for business and may have a child seat in back on rare occasion, so a sedan seems more practical.

A used V6 Accord sedan 6-speed would be a serious consideration when the time comes. I know about that little red V6 badge.

Are the 6-speed Accord sedans holding a high resale value due to rarity, or low value because dealers don't like stick shifts? I'm sure the used car market must know they have a specific appeal...

There is no TSX with a V6 and a manual trans. Look at the Acura website again.
You think I ain't worth a dollar, but I feel like a millionaire.

The TSX cannot be had with a manual and a V6. Period.

The only Honda sedan that can be had with a V6 and a manual is the TL SH-AWD 6M, and it ain't cheap.

Still won't be anywhere near 30k new, and the 6MT comes only on the sport model. But the G37 clutches are atrocious anyways, the 7spd auto is the way to go really.

Get the new Camry SE V6. Not manual but still does 0-60 in 5.8s and traps 101mph in the 1/4. Just ask Saintor.

Your budget is really the issue. You will need to go used E90 or find a 545/550 with the 6 speed.

Cost isn't even the issue, try finding one or even a dealer that is willing to order one.

      This sucks...

So, what's the current equivalent to the Jetta VR6? I find it hard to believe that Mk4 VR6's weren't popular enough to keep them going...

Looks like I will be looking at used Accords and TL's when the time comes. I'd actually love to check out a TL Type-S...

The Jetta 2.5, which has the same power and torque.

Not sure why having six cylinders under the hood is such a deal-breaker.

Honestly, having seen the newer 4 doors with I4Ts, and V6s, I'd rather just get a nice turbo 4 with a good, solid auto behind it if I was in your shoes.

There's really nothing out there new that you'd like if that's your criteria. I know this from car shopping forever. Anything I like the styling of that isn't some god awful expensive luxury car tends to be some boring driver.

Basically, pony up extra for a BMW, or buy something used that fits what you want.

As just one example, my Jetta VR6 is a 2.8 liter 6 and makes 172hp. A new Jetta GLI is a 2.0 liter 4 and makes 200hp with substantially better fuel economy. There's a real trend in the industry towards smaller-displacement, more efficient engines, especially in volume cars (think CAFE).

If you opened yourself up to either a 4 cylinder (if you're going new) or slightly used cars (if you need a six), I think you'd find a lot more options.

Not sure if this is your style, but here is an off-the-wall suggestion if you only need a back seat occasionally. What about a Tacoma X-Runner? Extended-cab, 4.0 DOHC V6, 6-speed manual, RWD.

328i gets my vote even if its lightly used.

EDIT: Yes I know it has an inline 6 but its a valid suggestion since it would be just as good or better in the sound department.

I will agree on the BMW bit. It may be a few years older etc but solid cars. A buddy of mine picked up an 06 BMW 330i M6 with sport/winter/premium package for a smidge under $23k otd with 40k miles. Hes had it for alittle over a year now and has yet to have any issue...its silku smoothhhhhhhh thats for damn sure. Could get into 08's possibly newer if you go down to the 328i's etc.

CPO 3 series would be your best bet if you don't mind the car being a couple years old.

I was wondering if Audi still offered a manual trans in the A4 so I checked it out on Audiusa.com yesterday. Was surprised to see that you can still get a six-speed MT on all three trim levels - Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige - with the Premium starting at about $33k. Although I'd be shocked if you could find a dealer that stocks one and you'd probably have to order it. Obviously it's a 4-cyl and a little above your cap, but it's close.

a used A4 with the 3.2 would also fit the bill if you will go used. Get a Titanium edition with stick and never look back.
