I'm swapping in my 16v into my rabbit soon and i'm using my stock cis fueling but i wanna run a MSD box preferably one with external controls but it doesn't have to have it. So what box is recommended and is there a wiring diagram out there for this?

Ive been researching the same thing recently. As I'm wanting to run carbs and have a clean looking setup. Most wiring diagrams can be found directly on the MSD website. I believe the 16v dizzy is locked out and controlled by the ecm. My biggest question is the trigger. I dont know if it will work of a crank trigger or the cam sensor. A 6AL would be fine just to get you running, the 6al-2 has a 2 step built in for flat foot shifting or launch control. You can buy a separate box to run 2 step on the 6-al. I'm leaning towards the programable 6-al2 which you can set timing curves a retards for n2o or boost. Its 400$ but the others are in the 200$ range

I'm currently running a 6AL MSD box in my 16v Scirocco. Works beautifully, just make sure you have a nice battery and a ALT that can support it.

I'm running the 6AL-2 programmable, it works great. Setting the curves is easy and it gives you a few different ways to get a signal (coil, distributor). Tach adapter was a pain, ended up just going with an Autometer tach.

Also, consider running MegaJolt with the MSD 6A (i actually prefer Mallory products, I have found them to be more powerfull and much more reliable). The MegaJolt will allow you to fine tune you ignition and the MSD provides the upgraded spark output. Pretty much all the ignition power you will ever need
