You can buy an iPod on ebay with the larger hard drive already installed for a decent price, and then you can still sell your existing one.
How about an iPod touch or iPhone + iTunes Match?

so capacity has been reached with my 160gb ipod...i need something bigger. i don't like having to pick and choose artists every time i sync. not to mention when i do hook it up to my computer to sync, every time i get a disk error and am asked to run check disk. or the ipod will freeze and i'll have to hard reset it 2 or 3 times to get it to work. and then when it does work, some songs will show up with wrong artist/title/album info and wrong album art. basically it's a piece of trash. i've had problems with my ipod since the first day i bought it and just put up with it because it could hold my entire library.
i'm looking for a new mp3/media player that has more capacity than the 160gb ipod. i found an archos 'tablet' that seems to fit the bill, but after reading reviews of it i'm not so sure. i just need something i can just dump all my music on (currently 158.5gb, and always growing) and not have to worry about running out of room anytime soon. the archos i found has a 500gb capacity. i saw that you can get an ipod harddrive that's ~220gb, but that is about $200 and would require me disassembling my ipod...which i'm sure i could do, but would rather not.
so what say you e&g folks? would this archos thing work sufficiently? anyone have one/used one? and FLAC playback would be an added bonus to whatever i end up getting

i'll look into ebay. that sounds like the best plan.
i don't use itunes and i don't like the whole streaming/cloud thing. for one, quality sounds like butt, two, i have to be connected to 'the net' somehow. i just want to be able to dump all my stuff onto a single device

still need to be connected to a network though..can't always guarantee network/wifi coverage everywhere i'll be. and honestly that just drains battery..sorry if i'm sounding snobish, but i don't mind toting around another device for the sole purpose of music. my thinking is if i'm using my phone for music, that's killing the battery on my phone for using it as a phone.
but i did not realize that about the quality with cloud streaming now. it had sounded pretty bad before and never really tried again.![]()

Spotify is amazing, and has recently started streaming at 320 Kbps. I never thought I would say it but next phone will be the lowest storage capacity available.
With the exception of some white label records, and live performances spotify has hAd almost everything I asked for, and the quality with some good headphones is almost equivalent to lossless.
The only problem is that it is pretty easy to chew through a data plan with it. I have unlimited so I don't really worry.

There's always people like you that think they need to travel with 500 days worth of music every time they leave the house. The fact is, iTunes, and many other programs, help you filter out your music based on your listening style for a reason; so you don't have to walk around with 500 days of music in your pocket.
If you really want all your music, either get a 2nd iPod and carry both at the same time, put all your stuff in the cloud, start listening to Pandora.

itunes sucks. the only reason i have an ipod is because at the time, it was the biggest capacity mp3 player. there is no algorithm that can accurately chart what i want to listen to. i'll go from john coltrane to slayer, mobb deep to the get up kids, explosions in the sky to smoke dza..i want all of my music with me on my ipod. it spends most of its life in my car, and i like having a variety of music for my differing moods, not to mention for when there are passengers. where i drive/listen to my ipod i don't always have service for cloud services, same with pandora. and pandora's audio quality sucks, jack johnson seems to make it onto EVERY station, no matter the genre. it's good for when i'm at work or elsewhere where i just need background noise..the 2nd ipod actually isn't a bad idea..i might end up going that way.
oh, and i only have 76 days of music
edit: i think i'm gonna go for this: http://www.amazon.com/Archos-501598-...pr_product_top

^ ya, reading the reviews it sounds like an awful device. (and just look at it, i think it's running a skinned android 2.1/2.2?)but i just need it to play music..maybe i'll load a few movies/tv shows on it, but pretty much just an mp3 player.
in other news, i happened to win an ipod touch 4g in a raffle a girl i work with was doing. so i've been playing with that the past few days. already jailbroke it, but i'm not exactly sure what to do after that. for me, it's more of a mini tablet, than an mp3 player. for $15 i ain't mad![]()
