Bump for you, ridiculously clean. When you titled it under the 4 door golf did you swap vin tags or does it still retain the originals?
Thanks, Ben

Ben,
It retains the original VIN tag under the hood on the passenger side apron and the stamped VIN on the rain tray (both are places the DMV & insurance adjusters don't look). This car never had a VIN tag on the dash or in the driver side door jam. I have a Mk2 VIN tag that has been etched to match the VIN of the 4 door title. Technically, "swapping" VIN's is illegal so I think this is a nice gray area that would only come into play if the car were in an accident. Other than that, fooling a DMV worker during an out-of-state inspection isn't rocket science. Officially, the car was imported for "off-road use only."![]()

Lovely ride. The VW Golf Country is still a rare sight, even in the Fatherland.

I would trade both my running MK2 8v and MK3 VR6 with rebuilt motor (An accumulated $10k) for this! No bull****.
But this:Makes it sound very illegitimate.Trades: The only trade I’ll consider will be a Mk3 Golf or Jetta with cut springs, steelies, and a rusted hood. If you have this I’ll give you this car plus $5,000. Thanks for looking.

And, that guy is an expert. Search his posts. Had some trouble legalizing a Golf Rallye.[/QUOTE]
If he's such an expert, why did he have trouble registering a Golf Rallye? It's on the list of U.S. Customs approved vehicles.

You, like many vagboi punks fail to completely read posts prior to posting. Let me re-point out to the obviously illiterate that this car was imported for "off-road use only." Canadian paperwork accompanies the car, so it CAN BE LEGALLY REGISTERED in Canada (not "no where" according to you). Additionally, a title for a black 1991 4-door Golf will accompany the car. If the new owner chooses to obtain a plate for that title and drive this car on the road, that is their choice. Greater crimes have been committed than a traffic citation for improper registration. his car HAS NOT been VIN swapped. It retains all its original VIN tags in their original locations. You obviously need to educate yourself on the proper definition.
Also, please stop referring to yourself as a coachbuilder. The picture on your sorry excuse for a website of a freshly painted Golf Rallye hardly makes you worthy of the title. I'm sure you also refer to yourself as a "fabricator," just because you own a welder. Now GTFO of my FS thread and maybe focus on changing whatever it is in your pathetic life that makes you think people give a sh1t about your uninformed opinion.

Damn dude, some low blows there. Why are you such a jerk?
If you think all he did was repaint a Rallye, wow.

Does this car have EPA and DOT certification in the USA under the original VIN?
That is the only way to properly import a car.
And because its on the list means it can be imported, but you still have to do extensive mods to meet DOT and $$$$ testing for EPA certification.

you can not import a car "for off road purposes" to the US
either you imported it properly and have documentation to prove it, or its here illegally
since you want to resort to getting mad and making childish rants I can only assume you are pissed because you know im right
either post up a door jamb sticker like this or edit your ad so that all potential buyers are properly informed
the only reason i am in this thread is I am currently shopping for a Country, but I want one thats properly imported, those are few and far between
