Ever since I tried on a pair at Nordstroms a few years back I have bought absolutely nothing but Ecco brand shoes for work (office, suit & tie type environment) and formal occasions. They are incredibly comfortable and it's like walking on air, but they are not the most stylish pair of shoes for a 20-something year old. I'd like something more trendy that I can wear when I hit up the clubs but will work with suits/office and won't make me feel like I'm wearing my grandpas shoes. I realize it won't be as comfortable as Ecco and I will have to make some compromise. Suggestions?

I want to buy 2-3 pairs so I'd say $150-$200 per

I picked up these 2 Hugo Boss shoes from Nordstrom Rack for ~$150 per. I still need 1-2 pairs of brown shoes

what you can do is look at ecco's european sites..

ordering them can be a pain. but its worth it.

Ha! Oxymoron. That's kind of like going into an Eddie Bauer store and looking for something comparable to Rock & Republic jeans.

I had a pair of Ecco's in college that i got from Goodwill. They were goretex so I'd wear them golfing. the really old codgers were always griping about me wearing such "nice" shoes to golf in.

I did try on a few pairs of Cole Haan and was pleasantly surprised

Hugo Boss shoes suck. I'd never get another pair. Cole Haan's are an inexpensive alternative that can be very comfortable though.

Cole Haan and Johnston and Murphy are my favorites for reasonably affordable stylish nice shoes

that said, I like classic looks for my dressier shoes, but CH offers a lot of variety

haven't tried them yet, but I found these while searching for ecco alternates:

    Allen Edmonds

Let's have our first reaction to something we don't like be curiosity, instead of criticism.

Indeed. I have walnut Strands and black Park Avenue's.

Allen Edmonds is the entry point for really well-made "investment" shoes, IMHO.

been wearing these since high school. they're very very expensive but they're worth it. they last for years if you keep them dry and clean. plus you can get the soles redone. i've been getting clarks lately, but if you need more trendy you could try aldo. not good quality but cool looking.

Rockport has some comfortable dress shoes that are also trendy. Try looking at DressSport TW or Business Lite. They have adidas adiPrene cushioning in them and ergonomically designed outsoles.

I wouldn't say AE are expensive. The certainly cost more than what most people consider a shoe should cost, but most shoes in the more common price points are fairly poorly made and wear very poorly over time. They stretch out, the corrected-grain leather starts to look nasty and fall apart, etc. A quality shoe, like AE or Alden or Carmina, will age well and actually look better as they break in. They can always be resoled if the sole wears down.

John Lobb and Lanvin and Ferragamo are far more expensive. That is not to say that for someone with the means and the interest they are not worth acquiring.

I picked up a pair of 14th & Union shoes at Nordstrom Rack. Very comfortable; not Ecco level but the closest thing I have found and better then CH. It's trendy, roomy and cushhy at the same time. Sorry no pics
