Thread: Any fiddle/violin players?

  1. 02-19-2012 12:20 AM #1
It's something I've kind of wanted to do for a long time, but I never really pursued the idea. Tonight the gym I run held a benefit concert for juvenile diabetes research. There was a fiddle player in the band that gives lessons in town. He said a nice fiddle could be had for $300. I didn't realize they were so inexpensive. So I think I'm going to buy one and start playing!

My son played for 4 years but recently stopped and joined the middle school band, taking up the sax. It was a little saddening when he quit becuase he was damn good, but we let them make their isn't enough time in the day for him to do all he does and continue violin.

    Stay patient.
    Practice 3-4 times a week.
    Use an instructor.

Why is that? I just ordered one online last night, hopefully it will be here by Thursday. I'm really looking forward to it.

I played violin from 7th grade-10th grade (or was it 11th....?) Either way, about 4-5 years or so. I eventually started to lose interest in my upperclassman years, but the violin is a beautiful and rewarding instrument. Sometimes I really wish I still had it.

    Best of luck OP!

I played violin from 4th-12th grades. Somewhere around middle school I began thinking violin was really lame and girly, so I lost my enthusiasm for it, only continuing on so I wouldn't have to take a real class during that school period.

After a few years of not playing, I sold it to a friend of mine for $50. After that, I kinda missed it and wish I hadn't gotten rid of it.
    Deal with it.

I forsee my game increasing roughly by 120% once I start shredding a violin. You should pick it back up man. As you probably know they can be had on the cheap.

I learned 100% without learning the sheet music. I had a great orchestra teacher that also learned from hearing and helped me tremendously.

With my neck the way it is im good for about maybe one song.

    I miss it
