This this is being created to post ideas, and to show what each person has done to create their own hear shield for their air intake. In the beginning of this threat is a shield that Mark(Goodbynaair) and I created this weekend. It was based off one that he did a while ago.
    Supplies list is as follows..
    - 1 piece of 20 gauge sheet metal that is at least 16x24" (22 gauge can work as well, its just not quite as heavy duty)
    - 1 pair of sheet metal snips (or you'll just have to get creative)
    - Sharpie !
    - a rolls of metal tape and foam tape.
    - Sheet metal screws (some people prefer to use other, but to each his own i guess lol.)
ALL MATERIALS CAN BE PURCHASED AT EITHER HOME DEPOT OR ACE HARDWARE STORES. If you're like me you can just get lucky and have a roommate whose done it before and works for a hvac company

Here is the initial piece of sheet metal (16x24")

Second, here are the measurements for the initial cut..

Here is Mark tearing it up.

After cutting out the main piece you will need these two smaller pieces in order to make brackets that will attach to the engine bay.

Once you cut those last pieces out you will attach like so in this picture and wrap the edges, first with the foam(as it's shown), and then with the metal tape(Obviously not shown here). ALSO, drill a hole, about 1/4th in the upper bracket that is going to be attached to the engine bay, because there is a screw that sticks out(depending on how your shield sits you may have to make custom measurement for this)

Here's removing the original factory shield (and obviously for someone who has already taken out their airbox)

Once the factory shield has been removed you will need to remove both the plastic piece and rubber pieces that are used for the factory air box(They almost look like plugs).

When placing it in the engine bay drill the sheet meal screws into the bay, as shown in the next two pictures

Here's the Final Product! (Just be sure to cut off and file the end of the screws(which have not been yet here), and then file them down)

    Post, Comment, And Enjoy !

You drilled into the frame rail and susp. tower? most of use here prefer to remove holes, not add them.

Other than that I really like the way that turned out.

I've been trying to find a diy heat shield and this seems to be legit. Great job op!

It all looks good except for screwing into the frame. I'd say use zip-ties in good places to secure it (that's what I did.) Then you don't have to worry about rust/holes and you can revert to stock without having really hurt anything.

The only reason that the frame was drilled into is because how badly others have turned out. I hated the idea at first, but it was the only way to properly attach the shield. zip ties could not properly keep this one in place, and also looked tacky.

Thanks for looking guys, and if have any other ideas of your own feel free to post them!

If I were you, I'd be careful. Colonie Police are very protectful of street signs.

Considering they'll never be opening my hood, I'll be alright. At worse I just tell him I got it on ebay, grind off anything that says "property of"

Dammit, you stole my thunder, I was going to do the same thing you just did, although I was going to basically make a whole new box for the old KaMotors e30 ram air kit I happen to have. Nice DIY, this should get stickied somewhere

I like the idea but I wouldn't be making any holes. I have the blinktek heatshield but that will be donated to my brother when I make a new one. I will be going in a similar direction but hope to do something a little different.

How is the blinktek shield held in?

A single zip tie around the fuel lines. It works quite well.

I'm not even using a zip tie with mine... it gets removed so often I'd be wasting money on zip ties
