Thread: Rallye Light Replacement Alternative

  1. 02-19-2012 03:50 PM #1
This is really old news, I know. Just want to see if anyone as ever pursued a set of these non-Hella versions. There was rumors going around that the lenses are plastic. It says they are currently out of stock, not really sure if that means permanently. Potential group buy?

I have Hella lights, and will never replace them. Would be cool to have a set of the "knock-offs" just for fun. I wouldn't be scared to pop a set open to smoke, that's for sure.

    $104 each, can't beat it.

Looks like these guys are selling the same units for $559! They definitely are NOT Hella items pictured.

$839 for a complete set with projectors. But they are Hellas pictured. See the difference?

Jetta CLi's (South Africa only?) used the same headlight housing as the Rallye. So it makes sense that a VW parts joint in SA would have both OG Hellas and cheap knockoffs.

Some guy from SA was on here years ago selling the housings - Rallye-Tecnik, something like that. IIRC Mason got a couple sets, and said the quality of the knockoffs was okay, but shipping costs and export / import duties made the deal not worth fooling with.

My guess is the knockoffs are or were the lights InPro was hyping to US distributors a few years ago.

I've bought them, Robin. They are in fact plastic, but are pretty decent replacements. I never ran them long enough to see if they warped or if the projector would leave markings in the lens (I wasn't running HID's either), but they looked good while I had them. I'll see if I can dig up some photos, this was from a build of mine years ago..

Yeah, bout 4 or 5 years ago now, sourced them through Autostyle. I'll have to dig through my old photobucket or hard drives, I lost most of my old build pics with the last laptop crash. As far as quality, they looked good and the fitment was pretty good, the one thing that I noticed was pitting in the headlights, especially all the tiny pits from little pieces that glass probably would have just deflected. BUT, I never had one shatter on me or crack, an I'm sure we have all been there with the glass lenses.. Would I buy them again? Yes.

with plastic lens, I would definitely run lamin-x on them for protection from pitting and outright cracking..

Mike. sent me this cool info, which was in German. Kinda hard to follow but you get the idea. The lights look sooo weird. You can totally tell right off the bat.

There is now for the Rallye gulf finally a reproduction front (which concerns the headlights) and I bought a pair lights and my new OEM eyes to " Schonung" packed into a box and stored. Because good OEM Scheinis costs nearly the double - and also by right, as can read you in my report.

    http://www.typ-17.de/product_info.ph...lye-links.html
    http://www.typ-17.de/product_info.ph...ye-rechts.html

Here times fact, thereby you know which is the matter thereby: 100% are top, less are worse ......

    * Register accuracy headlight in the lock carrier: 100%
    * Register accuracy OEM Linsengehäuse at the reproduction headlight: 100%
    * Quality of workmanship headlight casing (branch-pure copy - no differences): 100%
    * Quality of workmanship glass (up to small differences in the tinted windshield) 99%
    * Quality of workmanship inside (plug loosely, both high beam reflectors in the SW´s draws) 30%
    * Illuminating quality of the high beam ith comparison to oem (magnificent ape search lamp for trees) 10%

    Differences: Oem/reproduction

    * Adhesive color with that stuck together the glass: Black/light-grey
    * minimum differences in the tinted windshield
    * with the wiring of the headlight low beam pluses/mass are exchanged. Death for some xenon change if one does not know it. I had luck - in addition, would have into those
Trousers to go know. Then I would have fired the Dinger immediately with Mach4 to the next wall. My beautiful xenon make broken.

The headlights are worth their money, in addition, no more cent. The advantage is that they are free of optical lack - weils evenly new is. Also the fits are outstanding and the quality of the housings inclusive glass are all first quality. Which lets appear optically brighter the reproductions is that they stuck together with light-grey adhesive. Black adhesive little its dark edge function passes on to the headlight. The total muck is that with Headlight low beam plus/mass differently rum one is polarized. I imagined still, why my Xenons does not start. I worst expectation/fear struck I as of lightning meet on my light switch as it me it dawned that the Murks in it is there. Who measures before through??? No old sow. Normally many xenon systems do not survive that. Brutzeln then through. In any case then everything ran perfectly after the Umpinnen of the lines. Pig had. I will drive it the season over and will block then to the TÜV the series SW´s. Not only because of my xenon change (I have still another sentence with halogen lenses) alone. But also, because I would get a plaque with the shining picture of the long range headlight never ever. Ape search lamp - like already mentions. : (

    And here times the photos:

I'd definitely buy a set. A few tabs are broken on my passenger light so I'd be tempted to buy a set just to swap my glass lens on to the housing.

I tried buying a few sets of the rallye lights from volkswarehouse a few months back when there was a link on their site and no dice. I took the online purchase route, got a confirmation email and even emailed them directly asking for follow-up confirmation that I wasn't dreaming.

Zero communication back until over a month later via email saying that they were out of stock. I emailed back asking for a restock date and never heard back.

Maybe it's a language barrier thing?

  23. 02-26-2012 02:25 PM #23
Yeah, not sure what to do. I love sending emails and never getting a response. I really would like a set of these, maybe two

Hopefully this thread will get something figured out. We all want a set...

Wonder if we get enough people that want to buy them from the places that have them for sale, that they would discount the price for us.

They are willing to do a group buy. We will need to start getting a list together. We can do it in this thread at the top and have Robin edit the first post or start a new thread. I know there is a group buy section on this site so that is where this may need to go. I'll send admin a note before we act to keep this legit.

    This was their reply:

    Hi Ben

I'm sure we can work out a better price, let me know more-or-less how many you require.

Only be able to confirm price after are stock is on system.

    Kind Regards
