Autostyle is one of the biggest auto accessory stores in ZA as well as having a reputation for having top service, so I highly doubt that they will run off with your money

I may have the contact details of the owner at hand if that would make dealing with them easier

Who wants updates? May want to sit down for this....then again..most of you probably are.

    Direct quote from my e-mail:

    Hi

Have contacted DHL. on 1 set of lights, the shipping will be R3200. they were unable to give me a price on 33 sets. They said they will get back to me with the price. As soon as i get the quote i will inform you.

Below is the dimensions and weight on 1 set.
    35cmx35cmx17cm
    2.62kg

    Thanx

I hope my math is wrong but they are saying it will cost approximately $406.08 to ship "one set" of lights. This does not include the price of the the lights themselves. If you include the price of one set of lights, this comes to $597.94 shipped for an individual to order "one set" of replica CLi lights.

Yeah, from the looks of things, I don't think shipping in Bulk will be significant enough by the time I redistribute these in the US once they get to my house.

However, we will continue forward and see what they come up with.

Forget it guys. I looked into what it would cost to ship a pallet of these through DHL a couple years ago. They wanted over $6500 US for a pallet. This was in 08.

The excessive shipping charges are due to the fact that the US has what amounts to an embargo against SA. Though not a "true" embargo per se'; they have raised the duties to a point that it makes trade impossible.

UK is the same(ish) as the US. The only semi feasible way is to loop ship them from SA to another small country that doesn't have a pseudo embargo, then unpack, and re ship to here. The problem with that is; there really aren't any that we don't have high tariffs on their shipments as well (think Somalia)..

You'd have to ship through a few countries to get around it, and at that point the cost gets prohibitive as well. You essentially have to do a whole container load to make that work though.

We got it. You had a "not so successful" experience at getting these lights over here for whatever you think is "cheap". Where were you 140 posts ago when this thread started? Maybe you didn't exhaust all options, maybe you did. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Im a businessman, with adequate resources, and experience with international shipping. I've been shipping automotive parts, and antiques around the globe for years. That said; Im very "creative" with minimizing/circumnavigating tarrifs.

I exhausted every possible channel. There is no affordable way to ship these in bulk period. You're looking at a few hundred bucks shipping per pair no matter how you slice it or dice it.

I had a group buy setup on a European forum; where I had a couple dozen guys lined up with cash in hand, and Europeans don't play. I thought I was going to make a stack of loot; due to the exchange rate between sa, the Us and Europe. If it were possible; I would've pulled it off.

I tried every which way to get the shipping to a reasonable point; to where I could at least break even, and honor the group buy... No Dice...

Keep in mind that at the time; the dollar was worth 9 x the Rand, and the euro was worth double the dollar. So even at 1800% markup; it was impossible for me to pull off without LOSING money. And right now the exchange rate isn't as favorable, inflation has set in, and international shipping is even more expensive for us since the dollar imploded with the housing market.

I spoke with several gray market shippers who couldn't even get me in the ballpark. To break even; I would've had to gray market an entire shipping container from country to country, where it would be unpacked, and re shipped a few times to circumnavigate the extreme tarrifs; only to PRAY that when it finally hit the port of Britain or the US that they didn't discover that it originated in SA; because if they did I would've faced federal penalties for sneaking around the tarrifs, and the entire container load would've been confiscated.

All of that is ASSUMING that the load didn't get stolen in one of the uber sketchy countries that it would've been unpacked, and re shipped from..

Was there again on Saturday, they are not bad, obviously not as heavy as the OG Hella ones, but they are a very nice replacement.

He told me that he sold 30 sets to some guy in Germany who re-sells them, so obviously the german guy managed to work out some kind of cheap shipping...

Apparently this will be the last run of these made by the supplier.

I hope my math is wrong but they are saying it will cost approximately $406.08 to ship "one set" of lights. This does not include the price of the the lights themselves. If you include the price of one set of lights, this comes to $597.94 shipped for an individual to order "one set" of replica CLi lights.
For the record for me to send the same package from Canada to South Africa using Canada Post instead of DHL it only costs $67.93

Relax dude. I was just being snarky on the interwebz. Seriously though. Try shipping 1 set to your house. If you can pull it off for reasonable dough, you could easily flip em in a heartbeat. Give it a shot

The housings alone are $559 a set plus shipping. But they're out of stock.
