Thread: Data Recovery - tar + symlink fail

Hybrid View

Oops. I tar'd up a directory in Ubuntu 10, did a clean install to Ubuntu 11, then copied the tar'd up directory back over to the clean install. Unfortunately the directory that I tar'd up had some symlinks in it, and they now point to files that don't exist.

Do I have any options here to recover the lost data? I've played with magicrescue with no results. The files that I need recovered are .html and .css.

    Any ideas?

    Oh snap..

If it wasn't too important, start from scratch. Or if there are not that many files, I guess you'll have to get in there and re-link 1 by 1. Was this your Public folder or what's the deal with these .html and .css files?
