This company has done a 180 from being an Engineering driven endeavour to just another marketing zombie.

To hit sales targets, you must play whatever marketing games you can... almost all facets of industry seem to have gone this way... its the unfortunate world we live in now.

To me, this is the last good looking SL...

i think both are worlds better than the new one. new model = good. previous two gens = perfection. let's face it people, the high end cars won't even be worth cranking our neck at in a few years. that is unless it's an "daaaaaaang that's ugly!" look.

Montvale – Mercedes-AMG is launching itself into the 2012 roadster season with a vengeance. Arriving in U.S. dealerships in November, the new MY2013 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG V12 Roadster is making its world debut at the 2012 New York Auto Show. The AMG 6.0-liter V12 biturbo engine generates a peak output of 621 hp and a maximum torque of 738 lb-ft. The use of an all- aluminum body-in-white delivers a drastic weight reduction as the MY13 SL65 AMG is 254 pounds lighter than before. The distinctive front end is dominated by the new "twin-blade" grille with two blade-shaped fins and the lower horizontal bar in the front skirt in high-gloss chrome.

Its interesting because its going to cost as much if not more than the SLS.

It will probably be 4x as expensive as the GT500 convertible...and that still has more power. And it looks better...

They aren't remotely the same class of car. I'd take a base SL over a GT500...let alone an AMG.

the whole thing is a mess. the headlights are just hideous and way too forced looking on the car. the back is OK but doesn't flow with the car.

and the interior has just too much going on with too many different colors of materials and buttons.

add the $$$ because of the AMG model and horrible resale value, the old people still still line up to buy these things.

This isn't a good looking car and what a shame too, the SL's looks are a major part of its appeal...
