Thread: Local Chevy Dealer smoking crack - $125K Camaro

Hybrid View

  1. 02-21-2012 06:42 PM #1
Saw a commercial last night on local tv for this so a buddy and I decided to go take a look. Yes, this thing has an incredible engine in it, some pricy Brembos, and nice wheels, but crap people, who would pour $85K into a $37K car? Sadly, they will have no problem selling it....there are plenty of redneck old men around here that'll write a check for it and then park it in their garage.

I don't know why, but I feel as if the ZL1 badge right next to sidemarker makes the sidemarker stand out...

    Not to nitpick.

I bet that's not even real Carbon Fiber in engine bay.. Who is going to buy that piece of garbage? I am sorry to bring this into the discussion but here we go..Wouldn't a Mustang 5.0 be close to performance specs vs this car, for the fraction of the price? The Mustang would also look nicer than this tacky Camaro.

At least it has more than 151 lb/ft, so it should meet your requirements

Uh.. Did you happen to notice the "SLP 750 HP" sticker? That's 200hp more than a stock ZL1. It's obviously done up by SLP, like the old "firehawk" trans ams, for example. And to tell you, my BOSS 302 would NOT keep up with a 750HP camaro in a straight line unless it couldn't hook up.

From a collector standpoint, I'd totally buy it. A brand new showroom stock SLP ZL1 with the manual is pretty rare. Not fair to assess this car's performance-for-the-dollar value as the price is derived from the rarity of it.

I want to know how much the Camaro Drag Pack cars are going for.

IIRC, the Ford Cobra Jet and Challenger Drag Pak went for low-mid 70s from the dealer.

It's a new-age Yenko. Stick it in the garage for the next 40 years and never drive it and you'll be able to get your money back.

Add about $20k to that and you're right there. All of them list around $90k and then go up from there depending on which engine you want.

When someone is looking at a $125K Camaro with an $87k performance package, the actual performance is likely not a high priority. It takes a very specific individual to purchase this model. The individual must be wealthy and likely won't be cross-shopping.

This thread is essentially a number of people complaining that Chevy makes a Camaro that they can't afford.

Who is going to buy it? Obviously not you so don't worry about it.

Suspension looked totally unchanged except for an Eibach lower sway bar...oh, but it did have Katskinz leather seat covers custom installed.

6 figures makes me start thinking Audi R8, Porsche 911, BMW 6 or 7, Benz S or SL, Jag or other 6 figure machines that will make for much better chickmagnet mobiles.

If there is a customer who is willing to buy it for that price, why not?

    But that's.....epically small.

And that's an epically astronomical price. I hate Camaros.

Yes, because people buy Camaro convertibles to haul their groceries around in.

I don't know why people are hating on this car so hard. It's got 750hp and has a top speed of 205 mph. That's pretty freakin awesome IMO. The price is a different story, but I wouldn't buy even a $30k camaro, so the fact that this hopped up version is $125k doesn't mean much to me. I can appreciate it for what it is. Like the guy a few posts up, I've also seen this car in person at the Philly car show and it looked very well done.

Is this a proof of theory exercise? SLP is telling Chevrolet that their product is underpowered and under priced. Put this thing side by side with a Chevrolet ZL1 and I bet it still sells to the right person.

Sooooooooooo............ what exactly costs $87,805? An engine, brakes, wheels, and presumably a new suspension?

ALso, good thing the engine is labeled with how much hp it has. Just so we know.

The wording on the window sticker implies this is a dealer add-on. Is it a REAL ZL-1????

Especially when a Shelby GT 500 Super Snake is under $100K....

The Shelby 500 is a bargain compared to the ZL1. I just wait for one of the big motor mags to do a Shelby 500 vs ZL1 comparo test, you know that's bound to happen
