10 minutes and the whole emblem is lying in your hands on your kitchen table. Then carefully, pry/separate the VW from the housing. Can of Plastidip, and bam! Snaps all back together, without the need of tape.

Wow this was way easier than when I painted my MKV badge black with a white background. That time I pulled the chrome emblem and the black backing off the unit which was held on with 3m tape. PITA to get off and remove the tape to replace with new tape, looked sweet though when done. The R one just popped off, I roughed it up with some sand paper and I threw 5 coats of black at it. Ill get pics of the R when it stops raining and I can clean the dirt off back of the car!

Dirty a** is dirty. Emblem is clean though. Looks so nice all black, now do I black out the rear reflectors as well?
This was SO much easier and faster than the MKV!

Loving this one.
My super leet mods, cosmetic/touch/feel only for negligible Vortex cred: HPA dogbone mount, Dieselgeek short-shifter, aluminum look glovebox handle, R logo seat handle inserts, OEM LED tail lights, smoked side markers, and LED interior lighting.

I don't know how you do it Siliconerane... I was so meticulous with my black 2010 and 2011 yet yours out shines mine hands down. SHOWROOM SHINE!Awesome job, beautiful caR.

post more pics people, there can't only be 5 of us with black R's.

Recently installed the black grill and hatch emblems along with color matched side markers, truly murdered out until stage 2 begins in a few months with carbon fiber and red accents. Wheels will either get refinished to a carbon grey with red barrels or replaced entirely by something lighter with a lip.

My MKIV.:R is BMP and is the business when she is clean!!! Problem is it is sooooooooo much work keeping her clean. Rocking a car cover helps A LOT! (Everyone especially with Black should use one!) Was thinking of TR or CSG when I get my VI.:R. Looking at some of these pix has me thinking of black again. Plus that would be some dope pix of both of my .:R's chilling in black! Dam this thread has me thinking of black again......... Hope this thread stays alive like the other colors.

Wow, this is the first time I have done the whole process and while it is time consuming and labor intensive....so worth it.
washed, clay bared, waxed, and polished......looks like it was wrapped in plastic!!

Looking good. Mine will be almost the same, just minus 2 doors and whatever wheel I decide on.

No mods yet, not even window tint. I guess I did remove the "R" emblems, so that is one mod.
I will be going Stage 2+ with UM tune and 42DD downpipe.

I took some pictures of my week-old car on the 4th:

Since I took the photos I got the windows tinted, and I have black emblems and smoked side markers on order.

How much tint did you settle on? Could you share some pics w/ tint? My R should be arriving this week, and I'm trying to decide on how dark to go. I'm thinking 35% all around because at least it's legal in the back and close to legal in the front - but I'm not sure... Any advice would be appreciated guys.
Sorry to necrobump...

I haven't taken any good pictures since I got the tint, but here's a couple instagrams:

I used Wincos-30. It's a fancy new film that rejects more light & heat than older films, and doesn't mess with cell signals like some metallic tints apparently can. Here's the numbers from my friend's blog who turned me on to the stuff:
Visible Light Transmitted 34%
Visible Light Reflected 5%
Solar Energy Transmitted 22%
Solar Energy Reflected 5%
Solar Energy Absorption 73%
IR Rejection 92%
UV Ray Rejection 99%+
Total Solar Energy Rejected 53%

Here are a few of mine. The first one is in the parking lot at work. The one with the bike more recent after a morning filled with blackout inducing training.
