Hotels? Im trying to figure out the best place to stay. Any thoughts? My wife likes the Fairmont Hamilton but the Pompano Beach resort caught my eye. TIA

I've stayed at the Hamilton Princess. I like staying in town rather than being trapped at a resort. It's right next to the main ferry terminal so you can get around the island pretty easily by boat. You can rent scooters and go to their beach club if you want to hang on the beach for some hours. You used to be able to use your room key/charge card to access the facilities at the Southampton Princess.

Thanks... Ive read good things about that Princess property as well. Its funny... in our searches it seems many of the resorts are dated. ... so we're trying to find something somewhat modern. The Fairmont properties seem to be well maintained.

I stayed in the southhampton princess two years ago. Very nice hotel. Next time i go, which will be next summer, i plan on staying here http://www.mandarinoriental.com/bermuda/

I haven't been there in years so I have no restaurant recommendations. The food is better than on most of the Caribbean islands but similarly expensive. Most of it is flown in from the US. Things are also a lot more formal. Pack a blazer.

Unlike any place I've ever been in the Caribbean, the better restaurants in Hamilton frown on tee shirt and flip flops. It's the whole Brit thing. I belong to a yacht club and what I'd wear in the dining room there fits pretty well in Bermuda. Boat shoes. Nantucket red pants. Open collar shirt. Blazer. I don't remember ever wearing a tie but had one in my blazer pocket.

It's a small island. Rent a couple of scooters and it doesn't matter where you stay. You can get anywhere pretty quickly. There's something to be said for being on the beach.

I'm fairly certain there a couple big sport fishing tournaments in July which means Hamilton will be hopping with boozed up fisherman

You'll be right next to the Port Royal golf course if that's your thing. I might recommend taking the real short ride to the Somerset Country Squire right on Mangrove Bay in the later afternoon. Sit on the deck, overlooking the blue water and knock back a few dark 'n stormys while you wait for the sunset....

it's pretty tame. One of those "if you blink while riding through it you will miss it" ;-)

Fairmont Southampton. For our spring trip to the island we like the variety it offers onsite - golf course, beach, snorkeling, tennis, a spa....

haven't had a bad stay at a Fairmont yet

6 weeks to go. Just had our family vacation to Dinsey, and Im pretty excited we have this to look forward to.

3 of the best days of vacation Ive ever had. The Pompano was absolutley incredible. Loved the property, the room, the views were ridiculous. Went to the reefs one night for the dining exchange program....that was absolutely beautiful too. The weather wanst the best for one of our days, but otherwise, not one complaint. My wife and I are hoping we can make an annual trip out there. Truly magical place... and less than 2 hour flight! Thanks for all of the tips. We left the resort only once to go into Hamilton, shop and have lunch. Next time we go, we may explaore the island a bit more... but the resort was so good, it was tough to leave.

Oh, great. I'll do that now. I'd really like to take my little guy and my in-laws with us next time, so I'm keeping a close eye on the deals. Bermuda is a lot of things... but cheap isnt one them.

You're not supposed to but alcohol packed in your luggage is a huge savings. If you have a few cocktails and a glass of wine before dinner, the bottle of wine from the wine steward can last a couple of meals.

Got "stranded" in Hamilton for a few days due to Sandy. Best trip to the island we've had yet... fantastic

Grrrr! My wife turned to me last night and said, when are we going back? I'd like to say this year... but we're trying for a second kid so lots of our travel plans have been more last minute than they normally are, If I see a good special I may have to pull the trigger though.
