I just picked up a pair of 034's Audi 90 track-density strut mount bushings. I also got the barrel nuts to go with them. I was going to replace my compressed and worn stock bushings in my GTI with these shorter ones so I could raise my Bilstein coilovers to get a little more damper travel and hopefully have longer-lasting strut bushings with less play.

Compared to stock, are the Audi 90 bushings smaller in diameter at the top portion, and does the bushing have a smaller contact area? My concern is that with the harder material and reduced contact area mixed with high load may possibly force the mount through the strut tower opening.

If the diameter and contact area is the same, I won't be worried. I'm considering just exchanging these for the MkIV-specific track-density mounts instead just for the piece of mind.

im putting in a set of these when i spin down my coils after winter. alot of people have used them with no issues, but if installed incorrectly they wont last a few thousand miles.

you could also find some higher density polo mounts, they will do the same thing.

I can't seem to find any info on the dimensions of the Audi 90 bushings vs. MkIV bushings.

they will work fine i know plenty of people who have ran them, but i would look at polo mounts in all honesty the will get you the same amount of drop if not a little more plus they are suppose to last way longer than the audi 90 bushings. if you do run the audi 90 bushing make sure you pick up some euro image half caps though other wise your strut will hit the hood and will look like poo-poo

^^ This. This was discussed in the Low done right thread. Polo strut mounts are the way to go.

But I'm not doing it to go low. I want them for the function (flame on). I'm thinking I might as well attempt to get a little extra benefit if I need to replace my bushings anyway. I don't drive low and slow in this car, so I don't know if using these at higher load will be bad, especially if these are smaller in diameter and will allow side-to-side play within the strut tower even when bolted down with the retaining cap. That would allow for some really unwanted alignment changes.

I think I'll just go with the MkIV-specific bushings from 034 instead just for the piece of mind. I may look into finding more info on high-density Polo 6N bushings. Once again, my concern is if it's has reduced contact area within the tower to allow possible play.

Does anybody have measurements on the dimensions of each of the three different bushings (stock MkIV, Audi 90, Polo 6N)? That would be extremely helpful.

They are visually noticeably smaller when compared side by side.

You can tell a definite difference riding the track density 034's then?

Yes. I don't drive low and slow and I can definitely feel a difference

Tighter cornering. Less roll even without a tower brace and better FSB.

Bumps are a bit more rough, but I don't mind that.

The only thing I seems to be doing over and over again are strut bushings.

I've replaced them twice and they're still making noise when I turn the wheel.

I'm wondering if the nut on top of the streetlines is a different size and keeps ****ing them up.

It happened when I installed my streetlines with new OEM mounts and just started making noise again with the 034 mounts woith brand new bushings each time. So it has nothing to do with the mounts. I'm thinking its the retaining nut on the top of the hat of the coil. Think its a bit bigger and making the bushing stretch a bit.
