Just been to collect my Phaeton from VW after service.

VW dealer had had an interesting day.

A VW Touareg (2005) customer had asked for the price of a service earlier in week and was unhappy at the VW price. He took it to KwikFit yesterday. Less than a mile from Kwik Fit engine had dropped its oil. Recovered to VW where engine found to be seized - £12000 is quote for damage. Kwik Fit managers have been around to VW to try and sort something out.

Sump plug not properly tightened is suggestion.

Unfortunately, there are nitwits everywhere. I've heard of an R32 owner who had his car serviced at a main dealer and had the engine seize 20 metres down the street because someone had successfully drained the oil but forgotten to refill it...

Dealer says the other common occurence is a customer who has been elsewhere for service and coming into dealer with cars whose brake pads are worn down to metal and whose brake wear sensor wires have been cut off by people who do not understand or do not care
