pretty much everything from the mkvi golf/GTI section of ecs can be used in our cars. There are some parts that cant be used between them like sidemarkers but most everything else is interchangable

Hey ECS - just ordered a pair. Since these aren't OEM, is there any issues with the fit? Have you seen them installed on the R?

I suppose I should have asked before ordering

Thanks for the update. I just ordered a set of smoke side markers from ECS Tuning. They were shipped out two hours after I ordered

I noticed the set comes with amber bulbs so that you still get an amber look when illuminated. How hard is it to install the bulbs and new markers?

These bulbs are white. Don't the rules require amber bulbs? Don't slap me!

sidemarkers are very easy to install... once you have popped sidemarker out the bulb simply pulls out and pop the new one in ... i ordered LED bulbs for my clear sidemarkers... i also have a roll of blue smoke vinyl tint on the way so i can cover my DRL's and sidemarkers and possibly headlights !

I probably wouldnt put the film on the headlights. You can probably just order a bulb of a higher temperature from ddmtuning. factory bulb is most likely around 6k. 8k has a hint of blue in it and 10k is fairly blue

Damn, $50 bucks for side marker LED bulbs plus I don't want the side of the car to be lit up so bright.

im just more curious as to how well the film holds up the temperature from the bulbs. I know halogen bulbs get to be too hot to touch and dont see hid's being any different. I do know that autozone used to sell silicone sleaves for bulbs a while back. I had some on my dome lights and it seemed to work fine.

I think the price is due to the way they are made so they dont set the bulb out indicator. Im sure you could get away normal led's but you would have to change some coding with vag-com or live with the bulb out indicator on the dash

I guess, but 50 bucks, I think I'll find an alternative. ECS is a good company but they do jack up prices.

You should also tint those DRLs while you are at it!

Do the smoked side markers match the color of the black front grill??

I ordered clear sidemarkers for my TR Golf R - thinking of painting just the inside red to see what it would look like. If I don't like it, I can always color match the outside too
Born into a VW family, what can I say?

From the test fit / install photos we have seen no issues. Browse out install shots of each smoked and clear.

I also just got my smoked sidemarkers today. They came with a red colored bulb. Is this the same colored bulb that comes from the factory? Is there a difference between using the bulb that came with the set and the bulb from the factory? Thanks.

Both smoked and clear kit come with - two amber wedge shaped bulbs

Since the stock side markers are amber the stock wedge bulbs will be clear.
