There will be a 5-door (and 4-door) A3. http://jokeforblog.blogspot.it/2012/...tback-spy.html
The 4-door is confirmed for North America while the new 5-door is still up in the air.

Thanks for the pics XM_Rocks, that new A3 looks sweet. I wonder why they don't offer it in a five door? For looks, I would opt for it over the GTI and the R.

Could be right, the headlights look too much like mk5 and that can't be right.
Porsche is notorious for placing older headlight images over new testing models and that could be the case here.
It's very easy to print an image and place over the headlights, but still allow light to come through.
Same material used on bus windows.

Thanks for the link Hajduk. Wow, the A3 doesn't look as good in a 5 door like I thought it would. That thing looks huge! But, in a different color, more HP, it does give me something else to consider when it somes out. More room equals more versatility. Good find, thanks.

I have been looking at these spy pic headlights on the GTI very closely and I think they are the real deal! From what I can see, the MKVII Xenon headlight will take design elements from 2 different cars. The new Jetta and the bluesport roadster... The lower part of the headlight will be very similar to the Jetta, housing the directional in a strip at the lower part of the headlight like the MK5. The upper portion will take design elements from the bluesport roadster having two L shaped daytime running lights in each headlight. We won't know for sure till the Paris auto show but I have a feeling I am right.

Just noticed this and thought I would share:

Sorry about the spanish article.
Have we seen that specific pic before (in the article), showing the new style LED lights - the same type found on the 2012 t-reg and Tiguan (seen below):
Considering the current Golf/GTI looks like a mini Touareg from the rear, I wouldn't be surprised if the mk7 looked similar to the above. In fact, IMHO that would look fantastic - it's a design evolution that wouldn't detract from the Golf/GTI's timeless design language.

That's just a modified MK6. The MK7 will look nothing like it.

Just joined and read through this post.
I just stopped at a dealer yesterday to look at a 2012 Golf TDI. I was told unless I wanted to have one shipped from another dealer, they wouldn't be receiving another one of the '12 model year with the features I wanted "because the 2013's arrive in late July early August." Anyone have some thoughts on this...?
#86
You'll see the Mk7 more than likely in Oct-Nov since its debut is set for September

Understood, but this is what they told me after looking up in their computer system when the next cars were due to arrive. We were even talking about putting down a deposit on the car...

Awesome, nice video. That definitely made me want to take a trip out to the Nurburgring...
Ok, so I would like to add to my confusion. I stopped back in to that same dealer that said the 2013s are arriving late July early August. He told me that the 2013 Golfs coming in wouldn't be the new MQB model, just a new 2013 year Golf. He did not think the MkVII would be coming to the States until next year in 2013.
That being said, he is also attending a regional dealer meeting in Chicago soon and was going to give me any updated details he finds out...
Thoughts?

^^^ That sounds more likely.
I still believe you will see the Mk7 stateside as early as late Oct-Nov. Let us know what his update is upon returning from Chicago.

What we have seen that is related to the Golf:
A3 MQB:
Seat Lean MQB:
VW Polo (which I think is of interest for how it contains styling cues from the Jetta VI):

AutoExpress UK Golf VII Interior Spy Photos
Based on these spy photos, I'd say in all likelihood yes that does appear to be the MKVII dashboard. Personally, I'd like to see the color screen embedded between the gauges as at least a standard feature on higher trim level cars if they're not going to put it into every model. It's a small detail, but the little details on my car make me happy to own it.
These look like they're from a patent drawing. Seems like there's been a spate of leaks to the media lately via patent drawings from all the different automakers. I suppose that can't be helped, but if anything it doesn't give a complete picture of the interior layout because it lacks color and detail and is not shown in the context of an entire interior layout.

There’s more to it than that, though. I feel the fast Golf is a part of me. We’ve grown up together. When it came along, all simple and full of fun, I was living in a flat in London. Now it’s soft and luxurious and I’m slouched in a house in the Cotswolds. It’s like 1970s rock music. New stuff comes along which I’m sure is cleaner and better produced but it doesn’t have the heart and soul of the original.

Caught this polo gti hot weather testing in AZ. I'd imagine the new golf will look similar.

there are a few reoccuring themes to take note of with the MQB cars as well as MKVII spy photos:
- high belt line
- subsequently lower and more steeply raked front windshield
- longer wheelbase
- wider front and rear track
with those few notes it's easy to see VW Group wants to sell sleeker and more dynamic products. It takes every bit of creativity and originality to stay and be competitive in today's market place. Especially when you have more consumers saying (which to an extent is true, thanks to government vehicle safety regulations) that more and more cars are starting to look more alike. VW Group is on to something with their modular platform system beyond greater economies of scale and cost savings: designing stylistically simplistic but exciting product. FTW.

I was tired of all these renderings, so I came up with my own. I don't think VW is going to go crazy with the styling, so I am expecting an evolution of the MKVI. If you look closely near the headlights in the latest spy photos, you can see something very interesting with the shape of the headlights...

Here are some of the spyshots that I based my design out of. It's not really just a "jetta" headlight. I believe the final face will have some "tex" concept features as well.

I don't see any actual shut lines that indicate that those headlights have that sharp crease. You're looking at camo on the headlights. If anything from what I'm seeing I believe these headlights will be a thinner and angled evolution of those found on the MK6.
