How many of you guys have lowering springs? Any recommendations? I've been looking at the H&R's but I'd like a bigger drop. Maybe about 2.5 ? Any info is greatly appreciated

If you want to go more than 1.3" from the H&R sport springs you will need their coilovers. They are available now.

I also have a question on this topic. Is an alignment necessary when installing sport springs?

Some folks will say no since it is not that aggressive but u should always get alignment after doing anything with the suspension to dial it in.

Thanks! I'll probably lean towards 2" just so it's a bit more aggressive and I don't have to buy a camber kit or anything

You'll need an alignment, as it will throw your toe settings off

At the end of the day an alignment is cheaper than replacing tires

    H&R Sport Drop specs are 1.5" F, 1.3" R.
Barely noticeable drop for now... I know it'll take a few miles to settle. Just wondering how long I should wait till I get an alignment.

H&R Springs are apparently on nationwide backorder for the past month or so and I couldn't find anyone with a set in stock so I ordered their coilovers that are getting installed as I type. If I could figure out how to post a picture I would be glad to post it later.

I found a set of h&r springs from tire rack. I had to pay 299 for them but I don't have to wait for them to not be on backorder. I can't wait, I just have to find a shop to install them now.

Achtuning.com will price match, I had mine in about 5 days.
The ride in lil stiffer, corners better. took out a load of the body roll.

Are speed bumps going to be a problem with the hr springs?

I was worried about scraping or bottoming out. Will I have to go over them at an angle as a posed to straight on? That kinda stuff.

No, if it is a steep decline then yes but that would be for any car no matter drop. I do no swanging on bumps lol.

The speed bumps at my wifes work are brutal and the passat with H&R springs clears them without issue. It was a major concern when installing them.

Has anybody had the dealer install H&R springs? I asked my if they would and they said no, telling how it would "adversely effect my warranty not only my suspension but other components as well" obviously I don't care about the warranty on the suspension if I'm willing to change it but what else would effect? What should I do, I don't want to lose my warranty especially since I paid for the extended warranty. There is another dealer in town that may do it so I'll check with them too. I know there are other mechanics in town too I could take it to but I thought having the dealer do it would be better.

Ok I found a shop to do the install for $450 and it includes a loaner car, they specialize in BMWs so thats probably what they'll will give me. They said they recommend an alignment immediately but I know some you guys that have installed the H&Rs waited for the car to settle before the alignment. So I want to know how much settling happens and if its substantial enough to throw off the alignment if I have it aligned the day the springs are installed?

Lowered on H&R Coilovers. Front dropped all the way plus we cut off one of the collars to make it a little lower. The rear probably has 1/2 tp 3/4 of an inch left to go. 19x8.5 Rotiform NUE's currently +45 in front and +35 in the rear. Messing around with some spacers to get the stance perfect. NO RUBBING AT ALL!

For those wih H&R springs only...

Is the ride bouncy at all? Concerned with the stock shocks being too soft coupled with what I assume are stiff springs.

    Thanks!

I am also curious about whether or not to wait a while for the alignment. How long will it take for the car to settle?

Its my understanding that with stock shocks it's only a matter of time before they wear out and blow because of the added stress of the lowering springs. If you do it right the first time there should be no regrets later on down the road.

Well I got an answer from my mechanic that made sense about the alignment. He said go ahead and have it aligned immediately and settling shouldnt be an issue because if that was the case they wouldn't align them at the factory coming off the line. They would wait and drive them so they settled first which they don't. That's what he said. I personally don't know exactly what they do except build cars but what he said made sense to me so that's what I am going to do.

That does make sense I guess. Thanks for the update.

With all the engineering that's involved with making a new car I'm sure they take into consideration the amount of settling a car will have. I know people who have had an alignment done immediately after lowering only to have to do it again. Do yourself a favor and wait a few weeks and few hundred miles.

Loving ALL of these cars, but especially this one. I'm a big fan of sticking w/ stock wheels. (if they are the 18's)

I've NEVER considered lowering a car until this one. I feel like I have more wheel gap than my wrangler.

The H&R springs lower it to where it should be from the factory. These springs + shocks designed to go with them (if that exists) + sway bars should = a pretty sweet machine!
