Mostly in the sense of six degrees of separation - not bragging rights.
Several recent threads made me think about this. Going back three generations, I come from a fairly mundane, average, mostly agricultural background - typical for Central Europe. The transition to industrialization and more people moving to cities changed things - so I have a grand-aunt who owned a baking company, a great-uncle who owned a camera shop, a grandfather who owned and ran a dairy, a great-uncle who was a school principal, and there were more than a couple of priests and teachers.
girlfriend #1: her grandfather was a famous musical instrument theoretician, her uncle a supreme court judge.
girlfriend #2: her grandfather was prosecuted for being an influential union leader. And for being a Jew.
girlfriend #3: she hung out with the Scorpions, and eight miles high later left me for a Golden Earring guy...
girlfriend #4: she was assistant to a #1 organ transplant surgeon
girlfriend #5: I still love her to death
girlfriend #6: her grandfather was a famous philosopher
girlfriend #7: nude, she would have easily won sexiest woman alive in pan-regional contests
girlfriend #8: father developed some of the first manned space flight instruments
