No reverse in my 1991 Jetta 1.6d... any ideas?

just picked up this car the other day.. when i try to put it in 5th gear, the engine revs like its in neutral... linkage looks fine...

i think its an 'awy' tranny.. if i have to swap it, would you guys recommend a better fit?

Linkage may be fine, but your bushings have shat the bed. buy a shifter rebuild kit for like $10 at GAP and look in your bentley for the diagram of the shifter assembly. Then enjoy your extra gears.

i hope its that simple... i already have an order on the way from GAP and thats part of it...

It is. I've bought 5 mk2s in the past 6 years with "Busted transmissions" and all I did was change out the bushings and sell the car for 3x as much as I bought it for a week later.
