I searched and didn't see anything regarding my situation.

I purchased a used R32 that had it's mechatronics unit replaced at 24k miles (verified by my local dealer). I doubt the filter was changed at this time. The car currently has 31k on the clock and I want to change the filter before it hits the 40k mark.

In changing the filter only, do I lose any fluid in the process (assuming I let it sit for some hours or overnight)?

Thanks for the help guys! Happy that I don't need to do another full fluid change until 64k miles

Also, as a side note...the dealer told me the mechatronics doesn't include a fluid change

If the fluid has not been changed before, why bother changing the filter and waiting until 64k to change the fluid when 40k is the recommended service interval? You'll end up with 64k on the fluid.

Because it's well known that when they change out the mechatronics, the fluid is changed as well. The part they don't change is the filter (though some people have paid to get the dealer to simply swap the filter while they're in there).

So....as it stands my fluid WAS changed at 24k despite what the dealer says, though I can't verify the filter portion. Fluid is good until 64k, filter until 40k. I might as well change the filter any time here, since it will be changed again at the 64k mark to get things lined back up.

Actually seems that I found the answer.

Oil flows back into the trans when removing the housing correctly.
