I have the opportunity to buy a '96 850R for about $800. Original owner, CEL on, may need timing belt change... I want it but I don't know why. I think the desire is at least partially price-driven but I do love how these cars look. Then again, I already have an R. Of course, I can always downgrade and use this 850R as a daily... I just don't know. I want it, but realize I have no need for it.

      What do I do, TCL?

Do it, it doesn't hurt to have a second vehicle especially for a daily driver.

I'd do it. I dont think I could live knowing that with a few hundred bucks I couldve saved an interesting car from an ignorant owner or the crusher...

$800 is my lucky dollar amount. Last $800 car i bought was a 1990 audi coupe quattro.

Go ahead and do something Vad yourself!

For some reason, I've always liked the 850 R and for $800, I don't see a reason why not?

Do it. The 5 cylinder sounds awesome (especially with an aftermarket exhaust) and you can throw a tune on it making it almost as fast as your R.

Also, these are pretty rock solid daily drivers..I had a T5 (with tune/suspension/goodies) with 160K and the thing was still running strong. Only problem was the oil leaks...

If you're anything like me, & will want to fix EVERYTHING, that $800 850R will turn into a ~$3,500 850R, even if you do you're own work.

That being said - hell yes, buy it.

It's an inexpensive buy-in. As long as the post-purchase costs don't open a black hole, why not?

Conversely, do you need another car? Another insurance policy? Do you have a place to park it?

I'm down to one car only, mostly because I don't want another mouth to feed, and tandem parking at home is a biitch.

+1 for buy it. I'd buy it for that price assuming decent condition.

      I'm in the same boat.

Have an opportunity to buy a 2000 lightning blue saab viggen 2 door, 6K in mods alone, brand new rebuilt motor w/ forged je pistons, 19" summers and 18" winters for 6K.

so hard to pass it up.

Why is this even a question?

Those years of Volvo's were GORGEOUS...sure beats the hell out of the stuff they're making now.

If they re-created that car today...I'd buy one in a HEARTBEAT. Some HIDS and AWD...

I offered to buy my parents 97' S70...and they wouldn't let me...they liked it too much.

Sounds like your bragging about this find possibly? Post its location if your not 100% interested so those who are can grab it, unless you know... your just bragging? Id buy this for 800 in a heart beat. Detail it, inside and out and I bet you could have someone paying more than double what you did.

If you DONT like profiting, you could look at cheap mods for it. We all know the capabilities of those I5's.

Lol @ asking to purchase a semi-TCL Darling for a smoking deal. Isn't this Vadgti always on here, aka isn't he not dumb?

Oh and before you ask permission to go to the washroom, just go. Its okay, your a big boy now.
