Its reassuring to know there are hotel rooms still available that weekend.

Just booked my tickets and hotel this morning. June can't get here soon enough.
I booked grandstand 12, with a view of the tail-end of the start/finish straight, turns 1/2, and the pit exit...should be a good spot. it's an elevated grandstand so the view is supposed to be fully clear of the fences and crash barriers.
Who else is going this year? I know there's usually a good contingent from the forum that makes it out.

My 5th time at Montreal. Grandstand 31 and staying at Hotel Universel![]()

I'm staying at Best Western on the south shore in Brossard....about a 15 min can ride to the metro station.
I think I got the last room there. There are lots of rooms itself in the $300+ per night range. Mine was $200 per.

Very jealous of all of you going to the race... this is the first time in 6 years that I will miss the race (with the exception of the year Mr. Jerklestone wanted more money and got the race cancelled).
Have a blast!

I went in 2010 and I hope I could go again. I had an absolute blast. I went with three of my buddies I've known for more than 20 years. It was a great hanging with them once again.
Everything about the trip was great. The atmosphere of the city, gwaking at all the exotics passing by while dining outdoors, the street festivals, the women![]()
and so on.
Honestly, if I had a choice between the Austin GP and going to Montreal again, I would pick Montreal![]()

I plan on booking tickets shortly. Was having a tough time finding someone to go with me but I'm in Montreal right now staying with a friend and he told me last night he got the weekend off and he wants me to get us tickets. Free place to stay is an awesome bonus too.

I booked everything a few months ago. We went last year and sat in grandstand 33 which was a great spot so we decided to sit there again. Hotels downtown seems to still be available, they're expensive but you have a good shot of running into some of the teams. I decided to burn some Starpoints I've accrued from all the traveling I've done over the years and was able to grab a free room at the Westin Montreal. When I was there in 2010 Renault and the FIA were staying there as well - On race day we went down to the restaurant for breakfast and sat a few tables away from Bernie Ecclestone.
EDIT: wow - the downtown hotels are MUCH more expensive than they were a few months ago. $649/nt at the Westin is ridiculous.

I scoped out the track yesterday morning. Pretty cool! It's narrower than I expected.

does anyone know roughly when the schedule of all of the events around the city generally comes out? ie. the different street festivals, historic grand prix, support races, etc

speaking of this:
who can predict the first into the wall?
Where's Maldo? or Massa? both are walking the fine line next race.

Dude, you're literally sitting almost exaclty where I was last year. It's a bit high up, but still one of the best turns to be on with a perfect view and plenty of passing. Sh|t went crazy when Button passed Vettel right in front of us on the last lap.
There's a big block party on Saint Catherine that goes on from about Thursday to Saturday, then all those vendors move to the track on Sunday.
A shame about no historic race. Last year they even had the John Player Lotus racing.![]()

Grandstand 33 is a great place to sit. We enjoyed watching the race from there, and that pass made sitting in the rain all afternoon worth it! We were mid way up in section 7 - when the leaders came around on the last lap I had picked up my phone to try and grab one last shot of them going past. I wasn't 100% paying attention, but almost dropped it when I realized what was happening! After the race I looked and realized I had actually gotten a shot of Button going by - I just wish I had my DSLR and not my phone.. But yeah, I'm looking forward to sitting there again this year!

I ordered them from the circuit's website and there were options to have them mail it, or pick it up at will call.
I had general admission tickets last year, and I was standing next to GS 33 until the race was red flagged. I waited it out in the casino, then found a better vantage point when the race was restarted, but missed the epic lead change.![]()

interesting facts about this Canadian GP, regarding Schumacher, from Norbert Haug:
- Schumi has won there 7 times.
- Schumi's Silver Arrow is car #7.
- This will be race #7 of 2012.
so, make it happen Schumacher! that would be so awesome!

No pit walk this year... Montréal, Sunday, June 3, 2012 – With regret, the Grand Prix du Canada announces today the cancellation of the popular ‘’Open Doors’’ day, originally scheduled for the morning of Thursday, June 7. Following a serious examination of the situation, made necessary by public disruption threats and the difficulty to measure their precise validity, the organizers came to the conclusion that it is necessary to restrain the access to Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve and precisely the F1 pit lane, on the day preceding the first sessions on track.

So it's looking like I might have an extra ticket in grandstand 33.. I won't know for another day, but I've got a bad feeling one of my friends isn't going to make this year's trip. Assuming he bails out, does anyone know someone who might be interested in going?
