The STS is out of production. While I really like the STS, even GM admits that the car was never really up to the task of taking on the German mid-size luxury cars. The STS, apparently, wasn't even up to the task of challenging the smaller CTS.

Does it look the same - No, of course not.

But many of the basic elements are similar. It's as if Kia took a 7-series and refreshed it.

Unlike the LS460, the K9 doesn't really have the Hofmeister kink

And this is after Lexus virtually cloned the S Class w/ the LS430.


And as Schreyer, himself, had stated, the front of the K9 gets its inspiration from the Quattroporte, having a similar protruding grill/nose which has become popular these days.

man, that angle just looks awkward. the bug eyes looked terrible on the Elantra and are completely out of character for a car of this class. the car in general just looks half baked. at least the Equus and Genesis were inoffensive. this car will have quite the uphill battle in getting sold. i wonder how much a quick mid-cycle refresh could change things (e.g. Genesis Coupe) but for the better?

i think Kia's premium offerings should have their own design language (stop overusing the tiger nose and ridiculous cartoony headlights) similar to Hyundai's premium offerings although the new Genesis coupe now has the gaping maw and hexagonal grill.

My first look at the video and in two seconds BMW came to mind, so I hold up a picture of the front end and ask my 8 year old what it looked like and he shrugged and said "a BMW". Let's face it, it's an extremely derivative design. An attractive one, but derivative nonetheless.

Btw, what kind of salary does Hyundai pay you?

not too excited about this. i think it looks clean overall, but the overall proportion is little too bmw IMO. i expected more maserati than bmw, but i guess it's more toward bmw. hope the vertical grill don't make it over here.
