MK1 Diesel Scirocco

Has anyone ever heard of a diesel swap into a MK1 Scirocco? just wodering if anyone has attempted this, if so any info would be appreciated. like what years or what size diesel would work best with a 1979 Scirocco?

mk1 rabbit engine is a direct bolt in swap..

in a mk1 rocco... i think there is one or 2.. lots of mk2 rocco.. seek out this topic in the rocco section.. they close group..

Friend of mine did a 1.6 NA diesel in a Mk1 Scirocco, along with a 5 speed. He was getting close to 58 mpg I recall.....eventually sold it to someone. He did it for the fuel mileage, didn't care about power. Pretty much a bolt in process.

nic..e thanks for the input guys... keeping my eyes open for a donor. i like the 1.6 idea, period correct and less electronics to swap..

i swapped a 1.6td into my mk2 Scirocco.. it would be the exact same swap as both Scirocco's share the same A1 chassis.
I love my car as a diesel now. going to start looking for a 1.9AAZ now as I put one in my Jetta and like it alot more than the 1.6.
