I'm just tired of the same song they played on the radio.i just lose signal when passing under the bridge and what not.
They're specific to VW and Audi so i doubt it but I might be wrong.

In terms of radio, try listening to z100 fot a while or something. You'll go nuts. Not only does the music suck they also replay it like a million times.

I learned that there is a warning light when you are running low on washer fluid which I found kind of comical since it threw me into a bit of a frenzy when I saw an orange light illuminate my dash.

Mine fit. 1.They are rather larged sized aviators. 2. They only fit one way. 3. That way is...folded arms facing out and lenses facing (in), but I have to rotate them forward. Complicated I guess...

I chalk it up to just a quirky ergonomics, the DYN AUDIO systems makes up for any shortcomings that annoying little glasses holder has. Those crazy Germans and their sound systems.

The pushbutton start equipped doesn't have this issue.

The best part about it is that when the light comes on the reservoir is empty to the point that you can easily fit a whole gallon jug in, so you're not left with a jug that's only got a bit left in it kicking around until next time like I had with my MKIV

When playing from SD card: Muting the audio pauses the playback.
When connected via bluetooth, and then you switch to Media, it automatically starts playing the music. It might just be my phone app configuration though
Lights on hatch turn off when hatch is open, took a while to figure out why the hell my rear fog was not working meanwhile the hatch was just slightly open -_-

I learned that I absolutely hate the Nav and media player. The Nav is so annoying to use, doesn't have the "&" key, and often can't find the roads I want to navigate to. Yesterday I wanted to go to an address on Rt 46 West but there was only Rt 46 East according to the Nav. The search function rarely finds the places I want to go to either.

As for the media player, it might just be me, but when my phone connects to the system via Bluetooth, it turns off the MDI connection and won't play music out of the speakers. I have to disconnect the phone and reconnect it to get it to play music again. Such a pain!

Also last night, I went for a drive and was bored so I was looking around my cabin when I noticed that the top of my hand was red. I looked up to notice that there's two red spot lights which illuminate the area of the shifter and radio. I never noticed it before.

Out of my Nav experiences (Lexus, Acura, Toyota, Pioneer, Garmin) this has by FAR been the best Navigation system. The only system I've liked better is Navigon on the iPhone. Every system I mentioned above (except Navigon) have AWFUL search functions. VW's system is tolerable, but I find it easiest to just enter in the address.

"&": Hit the symbol button on the keyboard and then shift.

Bluetooth: This never happens to me. What phone are you using?

I've never had an in-dash Nav before so I can't compare. However my 7 year old TomTom feels more updated.

As for the "&" key, I'll have to try it again later but I don't remover there being a shift key. Silly me, it's probably there.

As for the phone, I have an iPhone 4.

Why would you use MDI over bluetooth audio with the 4s? The bluetooth audio is much better and you can change songs on Pandora via the steering wheel which I find you cant do with the MDI.

Overall the bluetooth sound quality is much better.

The only time I use the MDI is to charge the phone but I usually switch over to Sirus for those 30 mins.

Its just the 4, not the 4s. I was under the impression that the sound quality would be better through the cable then Bluetooth. But the main reason why I plug it in is to charge it.

It's not that big of a deal, just annoying how I'll have to disconnect and reconnect the cable for the music to play again. I'm getting a new phone in a couple of weeks (perhaps the iPhone 5 if it's worth it or I'll go with an S3) so maybe that problem will go away.

I know this has been going around the thread before, it seems there is a difference in opinion regarding the audio quality of MDI vs BT. To my ear, the MDI input is superior than BT.

As for the audio system switching between inputs on your iPhone, the audio is sent out through whichever connection is last to be made. Hence if you're plugged in to MDI on startup, audio will start on MDI and then switch from MDI to BT as soon as the bluetooth connection becomes paired between car/phone. Hence, if you don't switch the radio input, all you'll hear after a few seconds is silence. If it's any help, I posted earlier in this thread (post #279) on my experience.

Agreed. The MDI in my 2012 Autobahn GTI is better than BT. However, the BT in my R is better than MDI. Bizarre.

Speaking of phones, does anyone hook their phone up to an external antenna? I read something in the manual about it reducing EM exposure.

I'm wondering then if its the stock cable. I'm using the tagging enabled cable (VW Part # 000-051-446-J ) rather than the one that came with the car. I find it hard to believe that that's the difference. Oh well, I guess I'll have to drive around more and compare BT to MDI again!

(then again, it often seems more fun to drive with all the windows down and listen to the engine's own music! )

the "&" is definitely there, as a few of my locations have it in their titles.

BT sounds better then MDI for me as well, but I have a dedicated iPod classic for MDI and iPhone 4s for BT. I would make sure when you compare MDI to BT that the phone volume AND the MDI source volume (low, med, high) are the same.

BT sounds better cause RNS-510 DAC is much supieror to that of any ipod or iphone. If you use a USB stick via MDI, you will notice the sound will be much better than your ipod/iphone.

That the cruise control can keep me from speeding through school zones. I feel like 25mph was the minimum speed my previous cars would engage cruise control.

veteran VW owner's probably already knew this, but one cold morning last week, I noticed my display was flashing the temperature with a tiny snowflake beside the temp...it was 36F out...VW's friendly ice-caution reminder? Isn't that thoughtful.

I learned that if someone inside the car locks it with it running and you are outside the car with the key, you cannot unlock the car from the outside at all, either by kessy touching the handle or pushing the button on the fob. Hilarious to my wife laughing at me from within the car.

Sounds like you may want to consider doing the vagcom coding to allow you to use Kessy while car is running. Bit 2 of byte 4 in central electronics. Works great for leaving the car running with the heat/AC on while running errands and apparently keeping your wife from locking you out of the car...

Does anyone know if there is a PDF version of the Golf R owner's manual available?

Edit: This is the only thing I've found so far, and it really doesn't have very much information:
