All - if it's raining and your front wipers are on, and you forget to turn on your rear wiper when you hit REVERSE, the rear wiper will wipe for you. (the rear glass, not yer butt)

Wow. I thought I knew everything about my car but I had no idea that the rear wiper would come on automatically during reverse and I had no idea that the glove box had A/C. Knew everything else, but wow... this thing has so many gadgets!

I can't quite seem to get the hang of it... and to be honest... i haven't had time to even look at the manual once yet...

Is it a different spot that you're supposed to touch to lock it? Locking only seems to work sometimes for me....












None of mine fit... It's a nice little compartment, but not useful at all for what it is actually designed for.

You are overloading the system by locking it just before unlocking it. If you just grab the handle to unlock you will be fine. Another cool feature: When the car is locked, go over to the hatch. It automatically unlocks and lets you open it. When its time to close the trunk it automatically locks. Very convenient for grabbing something quickly and heading out.

Locking is that little indented spot on the outside of the handle.

I left hot food at Chipotle register with my wallet in the car. It was actually faster for me to grab my wallet (unlocking with KESSY) then sprinting back to the restaurant and traditional keyfob locking then it would have been to have to pause for 1/4 second and lock the car. In 1/4 second my black beans would have gotten 0.13 degrees cooler!

Here is what I learned about the Golf R and specifically KESSY.......

Don't leave your key in your pants when you do the laundry. I will ruin your key.

When I found the key when switching laundry, I shook the water out of it and promptly put it in a ziplock full of rice. This morning, I took it out of the bag and pushed the unlock button. Red light lit up. Was hopeful...only to get the key not in range message while trying to turn the car on with key in my lap. After a lot of swearing, I consulted the owners manual for help. Learned how to emergency start the R. Push start button and then immediately touch and hold the top of key (the non key ring side) to the start button. Lights came on, gauges did their sweep. Pressed start button again then held the key fob to the start button again and guess what? Engine started just fine.

This was the procedure the owners manual gave for a key with a dead battery. I am hoping that the wash cycle just killed the battery to a nonfunctioning level and not that the key fob is permanently screwed. I am getting a new battery tomorrow and will see if this returns the fob to proper working order. If it doesn't, I guess the key still works, just in a halfway fashion. Really don't want to have to touch hold the key to the start button every time. Good thing there are two keys.

Now you have learned two valuable things about your new Golf R with KESSY. 1.) Don't wash your key fob 2.) How to emergency start your car with a dead/dying key

Also, if the battery in your remote dies there IS a traditional keyhole on the exterior door handle. There is a cap covering it on the driver's door handle. If you feel with your finger on the under side of the rear section you will find a small notch that you can use your key to pry it off and expose the keyhole.

I actually asked this when I took delivery of the car, they also explained to me how to start the car if the remote was dead. The procedure was as outlined previously by DesmoPilot...

3rd gear with Stage 1 is a beautiful place to be.

You can set the preference in the MFD to unlock all doors or driver's only with one touch. Haven't tried a double tap since I have mine set to unlock all.

For some reason with all doors selected it still only unlocks the front door if you touch the passenger door, and not all 4 doors.

The hooks in the back are part of the LATCH system for securing child seats. They work very well for grocery backs as well.

I learned that at 125mph a Stage 1 :R drives and feels as stable as can be, inspiring the same confidence as an 80mph cruise, and best of all it has plenty of power left to give. Rumor has it that the acceleration was only stopped because of not wanting to exceed the 130mph H-speed rating of the stock tires.

I of course reminded the little birdie that informed me of this info that such speeds are clearly illegal but was assured precautions were taken.

I learned that if you don't shut your sunroof before you tap the KESSY button to turn off the engine, you are SOL after a second or two. you have to restart the whole car Also I noticed there is no manual sunroof crank. I never needed it in my MKV but my MKIV needed it about every 20 uses to re-align.

thats why you vagcom your key fob to open and close the windows. It wont open the sunroof but it will close it

Welp. Looks like I'll continue to be annoyed having to transcode stuff for the car...the last time I bought a VW I made sure to put in requests for FLAC and gapless playback support when I got my courtesy calls, if enough of us remember to do that maybe we'll actually get those someday
